Just go to experience what little is left of corals!

It is sad - corals are dying and one can't do anything to stop it.. Must go to experience them as I doubt they will be around in next 3-4years. If you take a boat ride, it will be... read more

A visit to Hikkaduwa Beach and snorkeling here has been one of the highlights of my trip to Sri Lanka. Even if you don't want to snorkel, by standing near the water, you can see colorful fishes right at your feet with each wave. It is beautiful. The beach in itself is really clean and well-maintained. Paid about LKR (Sri... More

It is sad - corals are dying and one can't do anything to stop it.. Must go to experience them as I doubt they will be around in next 3-4years. If you take a boat ride, it will be 5000rs( and this was just the beginning of season, so try to negotiate). Our boat rider was extremely careful so please... More

It's a memorable event for the life! believe me..You can see very beautiful tiny creatures and colored fish among the corals. But be careful not to damage for the corals. Those days this was more beautiful but unfortunately 'elnino' and reckless boat drivers ruined most of the stuff. It was a rough sea the day, the day I went last,... More

We attempted to snorkel on the reef (off the main beach) today. It was the worst snorkelling experience I've ever had. Less than 1m visibility. Terrible conditions. Don't bother, no matter what the locals say, while the conditions are rough. Also don't go on low tide as it is so shallow.

The beach is accessed from any of the sea front hotels, we used the Hikkaduwa Beach hotel, where the staff were very attentive. We used their restaurant and accessed their facilities including a fresh water shower. We walked onto the beach from there and could swim up to the reef, just a few metres away. The visibility was low in... More

We booked a boat for Rs. 3600/- but it wasn't a pleasant ride as the sea was rough. Could not see corals. Not the best time to see the corals. Best time when the sea is calm i.e. from Nov to May.

Plenty of boats available to take you and guide you to the best places - good prices with knowledgeable people. Good access from Hikkaduwa centre. Suitable for all ages.

The Coral Sanctuary at Hikkaduwa is really beautiful. You can take trip on those glass bottomed boats or snorkel. There are many PADI-certified Scuba Diving schools on the beach too.
