This is a great place to start before visiting the sites as it give good context. The ticket also then gives you access to the other sites. All descriptions are in English too.

this is a part of the lion rock fort site... those who cannot take the effort to climb all the way can have a look .. but its not worth the fees as there are nothing much to see except some paintings and writeups

Went to museum as included in entrance fee. Not an extensive collection in there. We went after we had climbed the rock. We felt that the exhibition made more sense having done the climb first. Would have been disappointed with content if had paid separately to go to the museum.

The review it gets in the rough guide is not exactely jubilant. But since the admission is included in the general 30$ admission for the World Heritage Site. So I went trough there anyways and was pleasantly surpised. It gives a very good overview of the history and préhistory of the surroundings with good photo's and exhibits. Also a very... More

Interesting museum about Sigiriya and deities including Danesa; contains mummies, models, and artifacts. Some artifacts don't have descriptions so read the pamphlet, research in advance, or hire a guide.

After climbing Lion Rock the visit to Sigiriya Museum was somewhat underwhelming. Photography is not permitted. The entrance ticket also covers the Museum but there not too many other visitors when I was there. Perhaps my exertions in climbing the rock had dulled the senses but reading the narrative provided with the exhibits etc. was onerous and I cut short... More

This museum takes you through the history of the restoration of the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. How the excavations were done and how it was restored.

Considering what I have seen all over Srilanka, this is probably the best museum and fulfills in engaging and informing the visitor.

Went to Sigiriya Museum before doing the wonderful climb up the rock. The building itself could use a bit of a clean up but the exhibit on the geology and history of Sigiriya was truly fascinating. Definitely recommend that you start your journey here to get some context into the wonders of Sigiriya

The archeologists have done a decent job on supplying the museum with relics and findings. They also have a video explaining the site's history with a few details.
