Well worth a visit

Lots to see. The building is modern and well layed out. We didn't climb the rock because of all the crowds (a holiday weekend), so this made a very acceptable substitute.

But you still have to pay a lot - Rs 2250 for non climbing foreigners- to visit this museum, a gift from the people of Japan to the people of Sri Lanka. 1 hr max recommended time.

Poorly maintained, dirty displays, definitely not worth the time. As it is included in the ticket price for Sigiriya rock, we were walking through it, but is really is a waste of time.

Quite a climb but really worth it, wonderful views and cooler on top. Whatever your guide says go as early as possible, he might not think it gets hot but we do. It will be interesting to see the water gardens when they have been restored.

Neither me or my girlfriend is that much into museums, but this one took us by surprise. After you've been on the rock it is very exiting to see what it might have been in ancient days and all the displays are proffesional and easy to understand. I think its a shame if you skip this part of the Sigiriya-experience!

Superb museum. God explanation of Sigiriya cultural importance. Great experience. Not allow to take photograph. Advice if you visit the museum before climbing the rock as once you climb no energy to spent time in museum. Don't miss it.

Just to one side of the entrance. A ramp takes you on a route to the top where the trees poke through the open roof and monkeys abound. Apart from one cultural static display of life a lot more needs to be added. Pictures, photographs, maps, local animals etc to cover the bare walls. Perhaps I went at the wrong... More

A fairly decent museum by Sri Lankan standards. Well signposted, good translations and relevant information spell out the history of Sigiriya, it's political significance and importance to the kingdom. I felt like I had a better appreciation of the whole Rock as a result. Your first stop at the site should be here, if not to prime yourself for the... More

this is a part of the lion rock fort site... those who cannot take the effort to climb all the way can have a look .. but its not worth the fees as there are nothing much to see except some paintings and writeups

This is a great place to start before visiting the sites as it give good context. The ticket also then gives you access to the other sites. All descriptions are in English too.
