Neighbourhood: Khan Market/Lodhi Garden
The large, well-established expat, diplomat community in the Capital and the who’s
who of the upmarket Delhi society are spread across a plethora of beautiful neighbourhoods, however Khan Market is their most favourite place to shop and
chill. A popular U-shaped shopping destination, this chirpy neighbourhood is a
storehouse of the city’s most prestigious book shops, opticians, grocers, tailors,
home décor stores, peppered with a range of cafes, restaurants, bakeries and street-
food corners including Big Chill and Khan Chacha. Not too far away from this busy
market is Lodhi Garden – one of Delhi’s most beautiful heritage parks, which is a
favourite picnic spot of the locals.

Full of fancy boutiques, small restaurants and cafe, it truly feels like the place to be in fancy Delhi for a cafe with your above-average-wage friends. If you find yourself missing the Western world fancy cafes, go there.Visited December 2023Travelled soloWritten 22 January 2024

- Phil JCanberra, Australia1,646 contributionsIndian vibes just not as you know themFor those that pooh pooh Khan Market's "lack of Indian vibe" they're simply wrong, it just a different kind of Indian vibe, that of cashed up locals, government officials (maybe that's a tautology?) young Delhi trendsetters and joined by high income expats and resident diplomats... plus a smattering of tourists who are often not sure what they've gotten themselves in for. A great variety of bars and restaurants with safe, good quality food catering to a variety of styles and tastes this is where Indians shop for high end electronics, jewelry, homewares and fashion and one of THE places to hang out in the many chill bars. It also has a couple of the best bookstores in Delhi with vast collections of beautiful books and to a western wallet, fabulous prices. Be warned though if travelling with elderly or infirm guests, in my experience, the many restaurants and bars are all 'upstairs' with no elevators.Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 3 June 2024
- Shivraj SaxenaIndia49 contributionsUpscale Shopping and Dining ExperienceA great place to shop or dine, offering a wide range of options for both. While more expensive than other Delhi markets, the shops are unique. Some cafes are excellent. The market is open-air, so you'll experience all weather conditions, and the footpaths are uneven in place. Parking is hard to find and the traffic is slow.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 August 2024

Love walking through the shops here. Nice cafes to stop for bites. Please go to Barisons, the book shop. It’s at the main entrance to the market, you can spend hours here. I’ve gone to Anokhi on several visits, and they’ve been very consistent with their poor service. They are such a put off, nothing changes there. Playclan has some nice quirky dresses and shirts, it’s a small set up but good service. Other than that, it’s nice to spend a free day at the market without the haggling of other markets.

Khan market was Established in 1951. It is a U-shaped double story complexes. It was busy and crowded in the morning. It is a good destination for shoppers looking for fashion, jewellery and reasonably prices good. There is something for everyone.

Some people told me Khan Market was overpriced. There's a wide variety from el cheapo to expensive (such as Amrapauli Jewellery) but it's your choice. Khan is probably my favorite market for gift shopping and just wandering. The touts are not as intrusive and in your face as most other markets.

I was staying in a hotel just a few minutes' walk away from Khan Market, and it was an easy decision to spend a couple of hours wandering around the area. It's not a large market in terms of size but there appeared to be something for most visitors - fashion outlet, jewellery, electronic goods, money changers, bookstores, mobile phone merchants, and custom repairs all featured. And I also managed to get a filling meal at one of the many intriguing restaurants, most of which had entrances on the inner lane.

I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere here. The shop assistants were all helpful but didn't follow me around like so many others do in India. The Anokhi and Fabindia stores were both well stocked and large, and there was a great choice of cafes and restaurants as well as fresh fruit and groceries so I was happy.
There was a lot more to see, so if you visit, allow plenty of time to browse and enjoy yourself. Parking was also good when we arrived at about 11am

Khan Market, located in posh area of New Delhi, frequented by people from diplomat area, higher level govt. employees and businessmen. I went with my relative from US. One can do all kind of shopping starting from grocery and clothing to end with variety of restaurants and pubs. You can by US made Cigars, trendy cloths in small shops, fancy and ethnic artificial and pure jewellery, your glasses or goggles to other high end lifestyle articles. A small cluster with two rows is all Khan market is, if you walk, 30 minutes is more than enough to cover the market. It is different crowd which comes here, so one should visit & feel it.

Incredible place. Don’t take a car as it is hard to park. Just Uber or tuk tuk over. There is a small apple store as well as many other cell phone and electronics stores, fabric and clothing stores, restaurants, at least three pet stores. I was searching for a very specific cable to fit my headset into an airplane socket and after trying three places found SAI gadgets which had an assortment of cables and adapters. They even tried to set up out to make sure it worked.

Could you please inform me the closing time of the market?
Thank you

Khan Market is closed on Sundays. Of late, the place has sprung up with a lot of upmarket pubs, restaurants and eateries, which remain open on Sundays too.

salut catherine ,

Khan Market was traditionally an up market that catered to mostly embassy staff. It has now evolved into a restaurant district of the capital among 3-4 others where one can find the best restaurants of the city.
