As far as a national museum goes, this isn't much. It's surprising that the capital city of a larger country with a rich visual tradition has a museum that seems old and worn out. The displays are out of the early 20th century and the mounting of works are casual rather than scholarly. Every item is described in English as well as Hindi. If you are here in the monsoon season maybe this would be a good indoor activity. Otherwise, move on.

Before going to the museum, I read online that there are plans to move it to a new building, but this was my only chance to visit it. Unfortunately, many galaries are already closed, many of the most famous pieces are already packed away, and the museum is very much in transition. The supposedly very good audioguide was not available and the museum highlights tour also did not appear to be running. That being said, there were some really lovely pieces and many exhibits and objects are very much still worth visiting. If it is still open and its your only chance to visit the museum, I would say go and enjoy it. However, if you can wait until the new museum opens, you would certainly see more of its famous collection than what's on show now.

Mindblowing trip, people with an interest in History must advise to visit during their visit to New Delhi. Advised to carry a water bottle and a small handbag only. The museum organizes many exhibitions and provides free guides. you can watch dancing girl, Buddha relics, and many other antiquities.

Though many galleries remain closed at the moment, it still has a huge collection of meticulously curated artefacts, paintings, sculptures, coins and discovered materials. The Harappa gallery is outstanding. So are the sections on Tanjore paintings and the beautiful sculpture of Nataraja from Tamil Nadu. Hopefully, there is enough fund to put the precious treasures in glass cases because visitors recklessly touch them. The museum may take a whole day if explored carefully with detailed attention to all the galleries.
