- SourathBengaluru, India187 contributionsA touristy place that you will likeOne of the best places in Shimla if you love being in touristy places. It has a crowd, it has a good view - a perfect setting for someone to spend some time here. You can click a lot of photos here.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 5 December 2023

From shoghi , took mmy car to shomla in evening and parked near lift . Got the lift straight to library . Weather was excellent . Good sunshine in day but cooler in evening. - Ankita152014New Delhi, India131 contributionsA good place to go for a walkGood place, but a little crowded over weekends. Must visit the place as there are many many historical places near this, like the Tagore theatre , very old and rare book stores like Maria brothers etc. And do visit the church here.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 17 May 2024
- Geoff HSissinghurst, United Kingdom17,512 contributionsIt's a walk that should not be missedStretching from Christ Church to Scandal Point, The Ridge is an open space in Shimla's centre. As you walk along it you will pass many historic buildings and statues. Among the buildings are the Hawa Ghar (a pavilion with views of The Ridge itself and the surrounding countryside and in front of which there is an imposing statue of Mahatma Gandhi), the Himichal Pradesh State Library and the Gaiety Theatre complex. There are also a number of interesting statues. As well as the Mahatma Gandhi statue, there is a bust of Lieutenant-General Daulat Singh (who was killed in a helicopter accident), Dr Y S Parmar (the First Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh state), Atal Bighari Vapajee (a poet who served three terms as the tenth Prime Minister of India) and Indira Gandhi (who, as well as being Mahatma Gandhi's daughter, also served as India's third and fifth Prime Minister). On top of all these buildings and statues, The Ridge also commands some magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. It's a walk that should not be missed.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 8 June 2024

Great place to sit or walk around, eat, and enjoy the sun on a cold day. The most happening place in Shimla. Whenever or whatever time of the day you go it is so lively with people enjoying with their family and friends.

Popular tourist spot ,scenic view of Shimla . To reach the ridge one can take the public lift to Mall road by paying 10 rs .Then walk uphill or if health permits t,take the shortcut with steps .
Enjoy their special softy ( we took vanilla and strawberry) in the cool climate .Lot of points for insta worthy photos .
May being the peak tourist season ,it was quite crowded but neat and clean .
No vehicles allowed one has to walk on foot

This is famous place in Shimla. Every tourist goes here, the place is lined with shops and hotels where vehicles are not allowed. One need to keep walking and clicking photo. Nothing special here, it seems like Mall on the road !

This is a very spacious open place where all tourists gather and enjoy the ambience of lovely natural views , have snacks and revel in the atmosphere . Must visit this place during Shimla visit. We did not know about the Ridge until, luckily, by chance, as we had a long walk along Mall road and wanted to see the church, we happened to experience the Ridge.

Good place to visit and hang our and enjoy scenes of mountains. But be wary of local himachali touts who will missell you photography and other services at exorbitant rates.
You need to negotiate hard with these people.

This Himalayan town has it all. Views, sights to visit, places to contemplate the day and all the shopping, Indian style, you could wish for. The people made us feel so welcome even though Corona virus was just breaking out in India. Thank you Shimla from Mr and Mrs Trusler UK.

In words, I don't see any difference in #TheRidgeRoad and #TheMallRoad as both the locations in Shimla give same feelings and the experience, however, the physical difference ia there. I really loved and spent an amazing time there. You will like the long walk here in an amazing environment whether you are holding someone's hand or alone. This place has so much to offer you in terms of feelings. Amazed to be there more than three times. Recommended atleast once in a life for the travellers and must if you are visiting #Shimla.

At one end of the mall road, is the ridge, the open & crowded place.People gather here anytime for doing nothing. You can also sit here without doing nothing for hours, such is the activities here. One gallery is here to view the ridge from a hight. At the other end of the gallery, the church is there. Some cemented benches inside huts are also there to sit and enjoy.Even people sit simply on road.At some time or other some activity is going on, which you can enjoy.Horse rides are there to engage the children. Plenty of fast food & snacks items are available here.

How is the sidhowal lodge? Have anybody been there?
A- I have not stayed here.
I mean howz the conveyance from there and is it easy to walk around simla from there? Anything more if someone can add?
A- It is near The Ridge on Jakhu Hill. It should be a nice place to stay. It is at centre of Shimla. You can walk to Jakhu Temple, walk in Jahku Hill area. Come down to The Rigde and The Mall at your convenience.
And also if someone can tell about clothes we should carry for the july 1st week trip
A- If it rains, you should have one without sleeve sweeter for each person. For kids tale caps. Or you can buy from there if you feel cold.

I am planning to visit Shimla with my wife during May this year. I have booked Woods Hotel at Shimla. As we are senior citizens I would like to know the location of my hotel from all centre of attractions. What will be the cab charges for local sight seeing in the season.
Written 12 February 2018
Woods Hotel is situated on Lakkar Bazaar which is downside of The Ridge.
No traffic is allowed on The Ridge or The Mall. It would be a fairly short uphill walk from Woods to The Ridge. No doubt your hotel can advise best place for tuk-tuk /taxi to drop you for access to The Mall/ Ridge if you don't want to walk up there. Otherwise all sites around Shimla can be got to by transport. I think there is a free bus that runs along The Mall.

Hie all, I am planning a trip to Shimla from Delhi by bike on 7-9 July, 2017 just want to know some answer:-
1. Is it feasible for bike trip in this climate as monsoon have already started.
2. I am planning to leave from Delhi at around 7Pm on 07th July'2017 (Basically it will be a night drive, is it safe..?)
Written 4 July 2017
Monsoon + hills are risky business, if you want to undertake it please consider your experience in driving on hilly roads. Plus I must point out nights in the hills are generally unsafe as there would be no lights and poor visibility due to rains.
