About
Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as ‘Mysuru Zoo’, is one of the oldest zoos of the country established in 1892, by His Highness, the erstwhile Ruler of Mysuru Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar Bahadur. Mysuru Zoo holds an important place in Karnataka. In 1909 the Palace Zoo was named as Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens to commemorate the illustrious founder and since then it bears the nomenclature. Mysuru Zoo has gradually grown into tourist centre, imparting wildlife values. It has got 123 years of history exhibiting wild animals in the near natural enclosures. Despite majority of the zoos have been shifted from the original place to the new places, Mysuru Zoo could modernize the zoo, without shifting the zoo. The zoo is well compacted unit, with modern animal enclosures including heritage buildings attracting tourists all over the world.

    Zootopia in Mysuru
The tickets to zoo can be bought online so its good to get and just show mobile phone when entering. The zoo has option of buggy rides. One can pay 200 rupees for adults or 150 for children and Seniors. We took option of hiring a buggy for 2400 for the 3 of us. The buggy driver was kind enough to take photos of us and also served as a guide showing us around the zoo. As the zoo is very hot in June this was good option. The lions and tigers were dozing but we got to see Pythons, Anacondas, King Cobras, zebra, giraffe, elephants, eagles, chimps, gorillas etc. The buggy ride was an hour long.

    well maintained zoo
It is one of the best zoo I have even visited in India. I have seen zoo in bangalore, kolkata and hyderabad. I will say, Mysore zoo is best. It is very well maintained. The zoo was fully covered with lot of trees, so you will not feel the hot weather. If you want you can take battery operated vehicle inside zoo which will cost you around 220 rs per head. better to roam by walking (approx 5km walking).

Worth a visit during your visit to Mysore
We were on a tour to Mysore where we thought we will give this zoo a shot to see what with all the good reviews is about. And we were amazed to see the cleanliness, Staff behavior at the topmost, Helpfulness etc. The zoo is filled with amazing collections of animals which becomes a must visit during you visit to Mysore. The entry tickets cost INR 100/-PP. Please do not carry plastic water bottles as they will charge you INR 10/- for taking inside the zoo. Though you can get this refund if you hold onto the bottle and sticker which they will stick at the bottle at the time of entrance. This same can be availed while exiting the zoo. On the left hand side you will see a small standee displaying get your refund here.

Loved it totally. Lots of animals to see and the best part is battery car to go inside the park. Must visit when in or around Mysore. There are eating places inside the park and at lot of places there are drinking water facilities within park. We enjoyed it fully.

Mysuru zoo is one of the best Zoo I have seen till date. Very well kept infrastructure & most importantly animals. All animals looked healthy. Has many animals which I hadn't seen in Indian zoo before like gorilla, giraffe, lemur

It's very big zoo so reserve 2-3 hours & if you are not fan of walking or visiting in summer days then opt for electric cart.
