It was built to impress when entering the harbor. The area is interesting to walk around. People going here and there! Vender people can be a bit in your face, just ignore them and walk through. The ferry ride is fun. Great view of harbor, military ships, fishing and oil rig vessels.

I know that this is a major landmark but not really something to spend any time. If you go to Elephanta- you will need to walk around this structure anyway.

This is definitely a must-see spot, and a good meeting point. Ferries leave from just beside the gate. Beautiful at sunset, especially if you're on a boat returning to Mumbai. It's constantly crowded, and many of the hawkers are cheats (e.g. asking hugely inflated prices; selling small balloons as the huge ones they have on display - these are massive... More

Worth seeing - breathtaking! We actually used one of the photographers in front of India Gate and was able to get some great family shots printed and emailed to us at a great value.

We stayed accrues from the Gateway and walked across in the evenings to take beautiful photographs of the building and the bay full of boats as the sun sets. This is a very busy attraction amongst both local and foreign travellers.

To enter the area, you have to stand in an interminable queue and wait for your turn for security check. Anyway it is interesting to see all the Indian tourists hustling for a selfie with the colonial building in the background or posing before the Taj Hotel. Very busy area, nice to see, but I prefer other parts of Mumbai.
