Worst aquarium ever visited - I was very excited to show my son one of the only aquariums in mumbai and when we visited there the person at ticket window was rude and asked for exact change . When we entered the lights were very dim - the tanks were dirty with water not clean you can hardly see the fishes - we were done and out in less that 10 mins . The place was stinky and dusty felt like not cleaned in months . We wanted to use the restroom and there was water clogged on the way to rest room ( more than 100 mosquitos ) and we had to walk on the bricks to visit the washroom . The washroom were not clean and stinky. In the middle of heart of mumbai it’s a shame they can’t maintain an aquarium. Please don’t visit especially if you have visited aquarium any where else in the world you will never appreciate this place. Total waste of time

We were very excited to see the Taraporewala Aquarium reopened after a massive redecoration, but when seeing the line up of visitors outside we were getting a bit nervous, After entering the gate on a non paved courtyard we had to cross building garbage, human faeces, sharp pools coming out of the ground before hitting the rope wired off ticket office.
If only that would have been the worst...
Entering the actual aquarium almost everything was wrong. Fishes were dead in at least 5 of the displays, not named ("in here we have yellow, blue and white fishes"), monitors broken, full of typos ("trophical instead of tropical fishes"), dusty and dirty. The line to follow was not clear and thus they had staff "guiding" the visitors through forcefully while clapping and yelling as if we were cattle that had to move on. Displays for large turtles were way too small. no real coral was used, but poorly pained plastic instead.
The kids loved it, as it had to do with animal. Anyone else should be disgraced by this typical example of "we wan't, but we can't" do it right in terms of attractions.
Taking pictures with your mobile sets you back Rs 500, if you use a proper camera even a stunning Rs 1,000-10,000 depending on the type!

I was waiting for 4 hours to get inside and saw the aquarium just for 50 minutes. Nothing special. It is recently renovated therefore there was mad rush. However after few months the rush will go down and then one may visit. Still it is not of international level. Like in international zoo and aquariums, sovereign shops coffee, snack items shall be made available. However architecture wise its very basic level. I will advise to visit the place only if there is no waiting.

Aquarium is still under development. By seeing the work progress, it seems to be, all children would have to wait for few more years.

I went with my family yesterday that is on 16 Sep 2014, however, it is still under renovation. When I previously went in Jan 2014, it was mentioned that it will open by 19 Mar 2014. However, still under renovation. Very very very disappointed.

It was sad to see the board on entry gate as "Under Renovation".
all details on web and other sites about re-opening of aquarium is just a fake news.
I visited today(27th August 2014) with my wife after checking the details from web about its re-opening with new marine spices etc etc... But disappointed.
Dear Visitors, kindly confirm the renovation status before visiting It personally.

Only the ground floor is live. If you are used to seeing marine life aquariums in other parts of the world this one is not worth it. But if you have kids they will be thrilled watching all the tiny fish around.

It's a parking facility outside the aquarium managed by MCGM. Parking area is alongside the cricket ground. If you are an early riser then you can be lucky enough to skip the parking fees. MCGM Staff usually comes after 11 am

Is luggage allowed inside the aquarium? Or is there any place to keep our luggage while goin to visit the aquarium?
Written 14 March 2018
There is no place to keep the luggage. You may request at the ticket counter. But not sure of safety.
Not sure if they allow luggage inside. But it could be crowded esp on weekends, so better not carry luggage.
Any way there isn;;t much to see, it is not worth seeing while lugging your suitcases and bags.
