Top ways to experience Colaba Market
The area
Neighbourhood: Colaba
It’s the tourist central of the city with a liberal dose of rich history, iconic eating and drinking joints and artistic connections that have found prominent mentions in Gregory
David Roberts’ Shantaram. Stroll down Colaba Causeway for kitschy street shopping
bargains. Take a break at the many laid-back legendary bars & restaurants like Cafe
Mondegar or Leopold Café. The vibrant vibe of Colaba is incomplete without the buzz at
Mumbai’s most iconic tourist hub, Gateway of India & The Taj Mahal Hotel on the parallel lane. Sprinkled with designer boutiques, quaint cafes with rooftop sea view, the promenade is a popular route to go to Elephanta Caves & Alibaug.

Walking down the market is an experience, particularly when it is really busy. The stalls on either side of the footpath mean there is only a small path for pedestrians to walk along, going in both directions. It is really bustling at night and really busy, so getting around can get quite tiresome. It's nice to try a few times but it does get a bit annoying after having to do it multiple times.
The variety of stalls was quite interesting and there were also shops which were open. You do need to manoeuvre a bit to get into the entrance of the stores. It is worth trying it once just to experience it but just be wary of pickpockets as you do get quite close to other people.
There is also a food market just off the main street which was interesting.

This market is a labyrinth of streets and lane ways, with virtually every inch filled with with shops and stalls. In some instances this consisted of a piece of cloth or cardboard on the ground with the goods piled on top.
It is about 10 minutes walk from the Taj Hotel and Gateway to India.
There is also a huge number of street food stalls cooking food on road side and pavements.
This is more a market for locals but it is popular with tourists, it is worth a visit to have a browse and soak up the atmosphere and experience the hustle and bustle of these busy streets. It is a real treat for the senses, with the sights, sounds and smells

Colaba Market is a place for good bargains especially for domestic and foreign tourists who throng this place.
One needs to be able to bargain well with the street side vendors lining the streets here. The place is conveniently located in South Mumbai and not too far from iconic landmarks like the Gateway.
Great to spend 3-4 hours in the markets and various restaurants in the vicinity.

We went to the market where fresh produce are sold. I think there is a confusion between the Colaba Market (which is were fresh produce is sold) and the Colaba Causeway Market where one can feast (and of course) buy to your heart's content stuff like bangles, sandals, clothes, etc. We were in Causeway last year and I must say we loved it.
The market on the other hand is great too, at least for people who love walking in the market with sidewalk vendors lining the streets. It has a more down-to-earth feel to it, and because I love marketing I enjoyed our visit. There are flower threaders deftly stringing colorful, fresh flowers, a small mill.
The market and Causeway are musts, if you are in Mumbai. Be sure though that you know how to haggle.

We enjoyed just strolling and buying/looking at things. I left most of my money at one of the scarf shops and bought some wonderful spices, teas, and fruit sweets at a spice shop. It was an enjoyable, crazy, noisy, afternoon!

Not sure why people wrote so many amazing reviews
It’s one long street full of stalls, like any market across India nothing special just stalls

I was impressed with the range of jewelry, the quality is quite good when compared to other Asian markets I've visited. There also are local clothes but the main items are jewelry, watches etc. Prepare to haggle, most single items (including a large scarf/sarong/wrap) I managed to get for no more than about $4 AUD. If you can't get the price down at one stall, go to the next one because they sell the same stuff.

Its a flea market - a narrow street full of small shops selling jewelry, accessories and clothes ( including batik stamps for printing on clothes). Bargaining heavily is required. The stuff on most of the shops is the same and hence checking more options before buying is recommended. You might come across sellers of brass ( antique looking) items but as a rule they wont be worth more than 300-400 bucks. There are several famous eateries in this area as well.

The shopping markets gets really crowded during the weekends, so make sure you head out earlier in the day. Try to avoid fridays as a lot of the stalls are closed for friday prayers. This place has everything from denim jeans to shirts, make sure you always bargain (reasonably of course) and if they don't accept just walk away. You'll soon hear shouts from the back saying "okay okay sir, you take". Pretty much decent place to get shirts, some small souvenirs and there's heaps to eat around. If you finish shopping there, just have a 20 min walk over to Crawford markets and you'll pass by some amazingly crafted buildings!

The Colaba Market is open on Sundays, but most the stores in Colaba Causeway Market are closed.
