- Ritu RNoida, India5 contributionsSunrise at its best!Awesome view during sunrise! It is reachable by car but the trick is to reach tiger hill by 4am to avoid walking to the point as it gets very crowded post that. We went there in November and was rewarded by the most beautiful sunrise!Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 November 2023
- RohitHyderabad, India107 contributionsEverest and Kanchejunga view at the same time!!I went in off season. It was cloudy. No sunrise. Hence, no Kanchenjunga, or Everest view. Damn! But this is a must visit place, where you can see both the mountain peaks at the same time. The sunrise view makes them glow like gold. Its peaceful, close to nature and smooth road.Visited March 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 27 December 2023
- texas6006Texas136 contributionsSunrise not to be missedRequires a token for the tourist company to take you there for sunrise viewing. Even then, there were hundreds of cars and may be a thousand people packed shoulder to shoulder in off-season! Got there almost 2 hours before sun rise to get the front row and stood shivering in the cold the whole time. It was all worth it once the sun came up. The main attraction is to see the sun's reflection on the Kangchenjunga mountain changing colors as it comes up. Took more than half hour for our car to leave the area and go back to town.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 January 2024
- Kazi Md. Majharul IslamDhaka City, Bangladesh643 contributionsSolo TipBest spot for witnessing the rising sun above the 'Queen of Hills', casting it's golden rays on the snow capped peaks of the mighty Kanchenjunga mountain range. The place offers a complete panoramic view of the Kanchenjunga mountain range. It is open throughout the day, but most of the tourists prefer to visit this place early in the morning to witness the golden peaks. It is advised to visit here as early as possible (around 4:00 - 4:30 am) to reach the nearest point, to avoid long walks. It is also advised to carry warm clothes as the weather gets really cold early in the morning and the gushing winds make it impossible to withstand the cold, also there's no shelter at the top to protect from the winds. We carried all the layers of warm clothes still we needed to buy additional shawls.Visited January 2024Travelled soloWritten 11 February 2024

The view is beautiful but the crowds are annoying. Darjeeling has many beautiful views but a lot of 'tourists' come to Tiger Hill for the sunrise since it is the highest point in the area. Yes it is freezing cold especially starting off early in the morning but that is expected and it is a good experience. The shared taxi takes us to a parking point where we start walking up for a few minutes. When we reach the top there is a observatory watchtower plus a sizeable ground area from where to view the sunrise. The only problem is that the observatory was packed with noisy tourists so there was no chance to go up. On the ground area most of the people were right at the edge of the railing crowding it with their arms in the air capturing pics and videos. So it was tough for anyone behind to actually enjoy the view. There was a lot of space behind on the open grounds but these people thought that crowding the barricade a couple of meters ahead would give them a closer view of the sunrise. Honestly if everyone just sat calmly on the grounds it would be so peaceful.. The problem is the mentality of the tourists plus they just visit this place to tick it off their to-do list in Darjeeling. Then some will feel entitled to blast their own bollywood songs and disturb the peace. There is a huge cheer when the sun rises which i found quite pretentious to be honest. Would not do this trip again.

We walked up from Jorebungalow. Recommend this only if you start at 4:00 am, to be ahead of the endless rush of fume and dust spewing jeeps. Thousands at the top, with huge viewing structure useable, but still under construction. Interestingly, while we were focused on the High Himalaya views, most were focused on the sunrise to the east. So photo ops easier for us. After the thousands rushed out to the next stop on the jeep tour, the walk down was absolutely beautiful in solitude.

It's crazy hoe popular this place is for sunrise...most guides arrive just after 4am for a630 sunrise so it's freezing cold whilst you wait. There are the usual stalls selling beanies/ gloves and of course chai wallahs. The sunrises and slowly the peals on the mountains are illuminated.... it's really beautiful to see (aside from the throngs of people there).
Do NOT attempt to use toilets there- they are revolting! Go in a bush before the sun comes up.

No doubt is the weather is clear, then this is a worthwhile trip, however if there is going to be cloud, do not bother. The top of the hill resemble a builders site, with barrels of burning stinking plastic rubbish. It does not even begin to meet the hype and we were advised that there are other places in Darjeeling where you can see the Himalayas when the weather is clear.

We went to the Tiger hill much before the dawn with the hopes of catching the glimpse of the mighty Kanchenjunga. But to our surprise we found that the best spots were already taken and it was a hefty crowd , we saw people shaking in that freezing cold and covering their faces and mouths with their hands more to keep them warm and not for the lurking fear of the dying second wave of Coronavirus. But I firmly believe that in the mountains luck plays a major role in sighting anything with snow. And the snow gods weren't happy at us for some reason and a thick layer of cloud came over and covered the entire sky and there went our hopes of sighting Kanchenjunga.
But you know as they say, hope is what keeps us alive and we saw that in the crowd there as noone moved from their position still hoping that they can see the peak soon. Unable to get a good spot we started looking around the area and we noticed that we can see the entire 360 degrees around us and suddenly I saw the first rays of light touching the forests at an angle where no one was looking. It was a serene sight and as a reflex my hands straightway went for the camera to capture this beautiful landscape where the eroded soil gave an impression of a waterfall moving like a reptile from the forest.
We were happy that we got something out there and I will always remember to look around for life can give you gifts from unexpected sources.
" Some other day " I murmured to Mt. Kanchenjunga and left.

This is an important place of Darjeeling tour from where we see beautiful sunrise and reflection of the same in Kanchanjunga mountain. We wake up at 3.30 AM, drive to this place in early morning and what we see is pathetic- incomplete construction ( from last few years) of observatory, no lights (expected to use mobile tourch), no guides, no control on public, you click any good pic and see scaffoldings are there. No stairs.
I am surprised, how this (the most important place of Darjeeling tour) is being administrated.
They know very well that tourists spend time and money, waking up at 3.30 AM and waiting at this place at 7deg C indicates how important it is.

This is a must go place when you are in Darjeeling. You need to start by 4 am to reach near the sunrise view point . You have a huge crowd waiting out here . You must wear heavy woollen . cap and gloves . Get your camera charged . The sunrise is okay but the reflection on the majestic Himalayan range is fascinating. The colour , the feel and the sound of the camera clicks will make this trip an experience for lifetime . Yes , you need to be lucky . While coming back see the old Ghoom Monastery near Sterling Resort and the Batasia Loop. This is a good way to start a day in Darj !

Tiger hills is a fantastic place to see the sunrise. Sun rises slowly covering the entire horizon with orange color and illuminates the mountain range. If there are no clouds you can witness a spectacular sunrise from here. A must visit place

We reached the viewing point by 4.00 am. It was a clear day, the sun rise was @ 5.25 am. It was crowded and because we reached the high point quite early we had a great view of the sun rise.

Is it true that if a tourist vehicle takes a permit for tiger hill previous day and do not actually visit ,the vehicle gets banned for 01 month ,this is what my driver has told me ..is it true ?
Written 5 May 2023
I do not know the answer. But what your driver says is illogical...unless he is planning to sell the permit to another taxi driver and if found out, the authorities would ban him for a month

We 4 friends planning for darjeeling tour during durga puja?? Is there shortage of hotel during the festive season?? Or it is better to book rooms prior journey??
Written 5 August 2022
Please book it prior, it will save your money and you I am sure don't want to spend your night on the streets

My parents are senior citizens travelling alone. In which area or from which landmark should I book a hotel for them in Mall Road, Darjeeling? walking is not easy for them either
Written 19 June 2022
You can check Windamere, Udaan Hotels and The Elgin. These are close to the mall and have nice views, facilities and will provide comfortable stay to your parents.

Can you go to tiger hill in your personal car? Any permits or passes are required? Also we will be a driving in a sedan; can the the car manage the road. After reading many of reviews and comments on the we are not really interested in the sunrise, so was thinking of going later on around 10 A.M . Is it worth the trip? We would be going in middle of December, so i guess it would be cloudy.
Written 26 November 2020
Yes a permit is required - I do not know how to get it as it was arranged by driver. I guess it is for car only as he did not ask identities. You can drive sedan there, seen few wagon R there.
Better to skip sunrise, it is a risky to be there at 5 am and no guarantee of visibility due to clouds, specifically in December.

Can sunrise view be seen in month of February from tiger hill? Is it advisable?
Written 25 January 2019
Hi, we were there in December. As we were there for 2 days we decided to gamble and avoid the sunrise chaos and we went at 10am and it was brilliant. It had rained the day before and the day we went had perfect blue skies. We were so happy to have read previous reviews that said the sunrise was unpleasant due to long walks in the dark and the amount of people. I know this doesn't answer your question but if you're lucky to have a clear day then you're in for a treat. The view is spiritual.

Hello.... I am planning to visit tiger hill from ghoom in mid of December...Tell me the way to reach tiger hill?
Written 4 October 2018
You can go Tiger hill directly from Ghoom. But it's little bit not so easy. Better, first you have to go Darjeeling town and accommodation a hotel. And then in early morning you have to go tiger hill with a share or reserve taxi. Not so far from DJ town OR you can ask a hotel manager to find it properly. Much Thanks.

Is there any other points near Darjeeling or Kalimpong from where mt. Kanchanjunga sunrise can be observed with less crowds. Regards
Written 29 June 2018
We could also get a great view from Glenary's Bakery restaurant in Darjeeling...we sat on the tables in the open balcony which provides you a picturesque view of the mountain range
