It is where according to legend, the toes of Goddess Kali fell. Its at a walking distance from the Kalighat metro station. However non-locals must be careful of guides, called pandas who try to extort money. Keep your shoes in any of the flower shops and take a guide from the shop itself. You can also visit without any guide.... More

Not at all an enlightening or enjoyable experience. Ignore the "guides" who tell you that there is a long line and that they will take you an easy way. They are just after as much money as they can get their hands on. Actually the best thing is to avoid this activity.

The image of Kali in this temple is unique as it does not follow the pattern of other Kali images in Bengal. Based on the idol of Mata Bhubaneshwari, the present idol of touchstone was created by... Though it's a place of worship, the heaviness descends on you when you get here. I couldn't stay for long there. And the place was dirty too.

I usually don't have an issue blending with the locals in India, but the fact that I couldn't speak Bangla was enough for the local flower and souvenir vendors to swarm around me offering tours and asking me if I needed help. I went a little past 2pm and the temple was closed, but I did witness a goat being... More

We visited this temple in January 2017. It was a Saturday and extremely busy. We refused most of the people that accosted us to accompany us at the temple for a nominal fee. We had to store our footwear and decided to do this at a small shop where we purchased some offering. The main queue was very long and... More
