Popular but pathetic

In central part of the City but poorly maintained. No proper display about the place. Thugs play misleading role exploiting visitors. Do not entertain such contacts.

Just say no if anyone asks for a fee. There are are some helpful priests who will show non-hindus around and just ask for a donation. You may want to turn down the offer of seeing a goat beheaded.

This is not what a temple is supposed to be like. If one wants to enjoy the feeling of a real temple experience, please avoid this place at all cost and go to Birla Temple or Dakshineshwar Temple instead. My mom and I were highly disappointed by this place and I have the feeling that the area must have deteriorated... More

During my year trip to Kolkata, got to visit Kalighat Kali temple along with my parents. The temple belongs to one of the 55 Shakthi peethas, the most powerful Kali temple. But the maintenance was extremely poor, the place was so dirty, crowd were not organized. People at the temple are so money minded, demanding money from everyone. Maintenance should... More

For me it was a weird yet interesting experience in this Temple. For one, it is jam packed on Sundays which I guess is the day that everyone goes to pray to their God here. When we got there by taxi, some guy just spoke to the taxi driver and then the taxi driver told us to follow him which... More

We went here to do prayers but as we entered we were ushered to the corner to discuss about the fee. Fee?? we thought praying in the temple is free of charge. Nevertheless we paid the fee to go inside the temple and do our prayer. We were then dropped to and area opposite the Kali temple. When we protested... More

You will not feel any devotion as it is full of people and u can,t even see the idols due to the rush the pandits are... More

Though people prefer to visit the temple for darshan on Tuesdays or Saturdays its advisable to visit the place on other days of the week to avoid the maddening rush. No visit to Kolkata is complete without being to the Kali temple. The darshan of Kali Maa will give you inner peace of mind. If you long for something Maa... More
