Olinda's population is about 400,000 people with 22 churches - the oldest from the 15th century. The Hill in which most of the churches located have few unique reason to visit: awesome Olinda and its surrounding view, shore view etc., the churches around and beautiful local arts market - many hand made arts and other crafts. In addition the small... More

We went to S. Francisco as part of the guided tour of the old town. This convent is very well preserved, contains rich Portuguese tiles and has a magical atmosphere. It closes at 12:00 and costs just 2 R$.

A charming convent in Olinda, with beautiful interior and lovely outdoor spaces. Definitely worth the very small entrance fee.

Lacking support for the visitors and poor maintenance. Go for a quick visit while in Olinda, but don't expect much

The Convento has wonderful walls covered of old blue tiles with beautiful patterns which make the visit worthy.

Of all the churches in Olinda, this was our favourite. Definitely worth venturing to and having a look around - largely well preserved and really beautiful. The cloisters were fantastic (worth having a guide book that explains all the various art and stories contained in the art).

A guided tour is available ( guide not associated with the convent) for a full run down on the history and quirky details of the convent/ Franciscan Monk residence.

Nice spot for a walking tour of Olinda. But then simply walking about Olinda is a great day out. Beats the hell out of a stay in Recife! I was there pre Carnival so the party atmosphere was just beginning. Great town.

This is a working convent that does not charge admission to visit its public areas, but they accept donations, which seems only fair to us. You can visit the cloister and various rooms, which contain impressive tile work, ceiling art, baroque furniture, etc., all of which seemed to be in excellent condition in comparison to other old religious facilities we... There are many beautiful Portuguese blue tile mosaic walls in this convent in addition to some rather remarkable painted wood worked ceilings. You might have to pay a couple of Reals to walk around inside but it is money well spent.
