We stopped by the Alabama Welcome Center on I-65 South to use the restroom and stretch our legs. The restrooms were good and relatively clean. The highlight though was the full-size rocket on site. I love how Alabama includes things like this at their welcome centers. It was very impressive and showcases the areas space industry. It’s definitely worth a stop along the highway when passing through.

Very clean restrooms, nice helpful employees. The vending machine are well stocked, but pricey. The usual travel and discount info.

Driving from Nashville into the Welcome Center on Oct. 9, 2019 at about 4:30 PM a ALDOT paving crew was working at the entrance and outlet of the center. Workmen instructed me to drive over fresh sprayed tar at the entrance and the same as we exited the center. My tire treads were full of tar and gravel. I drove about 12 miles to exit 351 and noticed my stearing system was making a popping sound during a 90 degree turn, The tar and gravel still packed into my tire treads. Our motel was at this exit. The next morning I made a video of the car making slow 90 degree turns and the noises being heard We made it home safely. ALDOT should have never, never left this center open during the paving at both the entrance and exit. What a negative impression that must have made to any new visitors.

I was traveling today thru Alabama alone with my 6 month old puppy at could not use the restrooms at any of the rest stops unless I left my puppy alone in my car. At one rest area I couldn’t even have my puppy at a picnic table. I refuse to leave my puppy in the so from now on I will avoid Alabama like the plague.
