Canyon day tour- be aware there are quite a few steps entering and exiting the canyon, some uneven terrain with tree roots, etc, but overall smooth, easily walkable paths. Our family ranged from age 6 to 59 and no one had any trouble walking through....More

Beautiful moderately easy hike. Lots of stairs on the way in but pretty easy overall. My kids (4 and 10) had a great time. Wear shoes that can get wet.

Visited 7/8/17 as 3 couples. One couple had been twice before - about 4 years earlier and about 12-14 years earlier. The scenery is beautiful!! Some of the trails leading across the little creek were lacking in ways to get across, but we managed. The...More

We were excited to be able to take our 2 small dogs along, and it worked out great. The cabin was very comfortable, very clean and with everything we needed. As you might expect, the highlight of our visit was a walk into the canyon....More

We drove from Birmingham, where we live, to the canyon for a day trip with our 10 month old daughter. We had an amazing time. The canyon is a sight to see. It feels like you're in an exotic place and reminded me of our...More

The canyon itself is amazing, the property and the campsites not so much. We are avid campers and were disappointed. Campsites were primitive which is fine but there were no good places to place a tent that wasn't on a significant slope. It's almost as...More

We have travelled all over the US looking at waterfalls and this is the first time we had to pay ($11/person senior rate) to take a walk to see a waterfall other than a state park with a lot of other activities. The hike is...More

Dismals would be nice for young kids - lots of water to walk & play in. It's a very easy trail to walk and only about 1.5 miles total. It is pretty and has some neat features. I liked the tie-in of the features to...More

Hear about the dismal canyon in a local magazine and decided to make a day trip. The hike is not for folks who are out of shape or for little tikes. The terrain requires climbing, walking across streams and going under fallen trees. Although it...More

We lived in south Alabama several years ago but never heard of this place until recently. Soon after researching the place, we booked a cabin there for a few nights. If you are coming from the south on Hwy 43 and your gps tells you...More

It's closed to the public during the winter (from Thanksgiving weekend to some time in March?), but you can have the Canyon all to yourself during that time if you rent one of the on-site cabins. We visited the weekend... More

No problem if you have the baby on your back or stomach. There are several CUT-OFFS TO SHORTEN THE HIKE IF YOU WANT TO RETURN EARLY. The creek trail is fairly level and you can choose whether to climb or not.
