A very kind vendor explained the layout to me (north building, south building, smaller numbered entrances are on the north side) so be sure to ask someone when you're there. I was a little surprised to find a number of vendors closed on a Sat. afternoon.Visited August 2023Travelled soloWritten 12 August 2023

The new-to-us best treat was meeting the brilliant lady making Peculiar Preserves and coming home with a unique treat. The artwork displayed throughout the public spaces always surprise and delight the eye. It is a great place to get lots and lots of walking steps in! Unfortunately, no elevators were running when we were there, and our knees aren't young anymore. But, we would have missed out on some of the most amazing artwork painted in the stairwells, so that's a mixed bag! Beware, it's easy to get disoriented and you may have some extra steps to find your way back to the entrance where you parked! Maybe next time we'll remember to try to park near the water tower since you can see it from the generous windows!! We'll be back.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 October 2023

My grandson wanted to visit the mill so we checked the website. It said that it opened at 10AM on Saturday. We arrived at around 10 till. There was already tour bus waiting. We waited till 10 after and it still wasn't open. Because we needed to do a couple of errands, we did them and returned at 11AM to find it just opening. The pen ball location was still closed . Oh well maybe next visit!

I give this place 3 stars because Lowe Mill is a pretty neat place, but when I went to the Deadman's Party on the 29th of October 2022, it was not fun at all. The DJs Flip C and Miss K were terrible. All I heard them playing was electronic rave music with the same beat over and over again. If this event happens again, I sincerely hope that the same DJs will not be there again. I realize that everyone else who was there really enjoyed the music, but me, my relative, and my friend definitely did not. It was one of the most boring parties I have been to.

Great job of saving the mill and utilizing the space. Worth it to see the structure inside and out. Variety of artists and mediums.

We have been to this complex twice in the last couple of months. Our first visit was during Spring Break so many of the artists weren't there but there were still enough artists present to make it fun and interesting. We ate at the Mediterranean restaurant on premises. Our March visit found us having almost the whole complex to ourselves. We went back in June and enjoyed it just as much. More artists were there, and there were more visitors both inside and outside for the street market. It is a bit confusing but if you love history and old buildings, it is well worth a visit. Be sure to enjoy the old working elevator. On both visits, we had attendants who were engaging and fun. (And they always appreciated the tips!) Also stop to appreciate the large mural located downstairs...it shows the history of the building.

Lowe Mill is a collection of all types of art vendors. We were only going there to purchase the chocolate. However, there wasn't any direction of which door to go through so we went through a good portion of the building. From what I saw, they have a lot of pottery art shops, an arcade game shop, a dog training school, and a guitar shop. Even if you don't purchase anything, it's cool to look through the shops. We eventually found the chocolate shop and had a meal at The Veggie. It's a black-owned vegan eatery!

As someone who loves old buildings, I really appreciated the idea behind this space. Loved how they used the old mill to create a space for the arts. The walls and floors showed their age and were beautiful. There were several ways to get inside from the ample parking areas. Numerous stairwells on the inside took you between floors. It is important to note that there are bats in the stairwells and the smell can be a bit...musty. Not a big deal for me. As for the studios housed inside I think it is an amazing idea and really appreciated the artists there. Even if I don’t care for a certain type of art I can still appreciate the creativity and work of the artist.
Don’t expect all studios to be open when you are there. Just because the mill is open, artists can stick to their own schedules. Some are by appointment only. During uncertain pandemic times I can appreciate that. Still enjoyed looking in all the windows. Got to talk to a few artists which was nice and found a few small items to bring home. :)
Overall I think this space is a must see. It is important though to remember what it is and adjust expectations accordingly. I wasn’t in the keast disappointed and could wander for hours. Loved every second.

Are art booths that are only there? How much is a booth to rent? I have clothing, could I sell them there?
Written 17 May 2023
Artist rent booths. They are working on their art and have it for sale. There is a coffee shop and popsicle shop there too. We were disappointed. The web site does make it look much better than it is.

Hi, I would like to know what the cost is for a vendor booth or shop? Are there any particular qualifications required?
Thank you,
Linda Ellis

Although I have only visited the Mill, and don't have a booth there, the home page of their website includes a Contacts page and has several contacts listed, along with the main phone number, (256) 533-0399. Hopefully, one of the Contacts can assist with your questions.

There is NO cost to browse through the Mill. Each booth promotes/sells their 'wares', and there are different food vendors open. This is very similar to a Flea Market. 'It don't cost nothin' to look!' :)

Entry is generally free to go in and visit and shop at the many galleries. There is a small theater and a few other venues that charge entry to their events, like concerts and comedy shows.
