Nice place to drive or walk around in. We probably spent longer than we would have since we were looking for the Dead Child's Playground. Articles said it was smack dab in the center of the cemetery but it's not. It's off to one side and you have to go over a stone (I think) wall to get there. Once... More

This is one of Alabama's oldest and biggest cemeteries. Every year, we host Huntsville's memorial Day commemoration in the Veteran's Section. Beautiful old stone, sufficient roads, and an abundance of history make this a destination if genealogy, history, or cemeteries are your thing. It makes for a lovely walk through history in this peaceful setting of old-growth trees, and 19th... More

This was also something we had planned to attend the Historic Stroll over the long weekend and enjoyed the many dedicated actors portraying numerous people, and braving the heat (it was a tad warmer & humid than normal). The grounds were very well marked & seem to be very well taken care of. Definitely check out this cemetery for a... More

It was our first time to the cemetery here in Huntsville, AL. There was a rather large crowd attending. There were over fifty persons in period character outfits and were describing the life and eventual death of the person buried on that particular spot. We had the best time and it was so entertaining for both adults and kids. I... More

Interesting place but was fascinated by the Dead Childrens Playground adjacent to the Cemetary and one of the most bizarre and weird locations for a playground. Lots of paranormal activity apparently occurs here and you might even see the swing start moving on its own. A perfect setting for a scary film.

I was able to find the cemetery location, however, there was no one around nor any markers to tell you where anyone famous or even the cemetery layout was to be found. It was pretty, with lots of trees, so I imagine it would be fun to see in the fall with the fall colors, but overall I would skip... More

A beautiful cemetery with LOADS of history dating back over 200 years. If you an go to a Cemetery Stroll in the fall, it is worth attending. Local actors are dressed in period costumes to depict some historic Huntsville figures of that period. Parking can be difficult because it does skirt a large neighborhood but they do try to manage... During the Cemetary Walk you will get presentation of those that are buried there by actors portraying them. This cemetery has a lot of history. I f you are a Civil War aficionado, you can get quite a bit of information of what Huntsville was like during those years.

This is a great place to get some local history. If you visit on the Cemetery Stroll Event Days you can run into historical characters and listen to their stories. Really fascinating and unique!

Absolutely gorgeous, well-maintained cemetery with helpful staff, beautiful monuments and shady areas. Five AL governors are buried there and the confederate site is impressive. Highly recommend visiting here if you interested in history at all.
