A museum featuring 50s to 70s old trades including old traditional chinese medicine shop, the red, blue and white pole barber shop, a go-go era tailor shop, village style sundry shop and an old tricycle delivery transportation of Rothmans, etc. It is very entertaining and also educational.

I took my four year old son here after a chance meeting with Mr. Tih the previous afternoon in a nearby gallery. The museum is compact but the space is used very intelligently and the exhibits are really interesting. Mister Tih has a real passion for Melaka and his knowledge is both deep and wide, furthermore he is such a generous host by taking the extra time with my son. I will never forget the hour or so I spent here, especially the time with the wonderful Mr Tih.

A private museum sectioned into various rooms covering a typical (but quite wealthy) 60s living room and kitchen, 60s barber and female hair salon, Chinese medicine shop, bicycle repair shop, provision shop and 70s cinema showing a Bruce Lee film...and others. What makes the place really interesting is the very enthusiastic guide who is clearly passionate about the many artefacts, and the attention to detail with many photos, calendars and signs all evocative of the period. Well worth the M$10 entrance fee.

This museum brings you back to the 50’s and 60’s— a time he when life was simple but less stressful. I commend the guide, Mr. Tih, for his enthusiastic and passionate explanation of the museum.

A place to soak in the nostalgic vibe of life in the 50s to 70s, with tonnes of items on display in settings such as a home, kitchen, medicine hall and hair salon. For visitors who grew up in Malaysia and Singapore during this period, some items are sure to evoke memories! Visitors are welcome to stay as long as they want and take photos to their hearts' content.

Stepping into this museum is like stepping back in time, when life was much simpler, to see how people lived in the past. A very impressive museum with many artefacts collected by the owner and curator, spread out over two floors. The museum is split up into various sections, for example tailor's shop, tea shop, hair salon, cinema, chinese medicine shop, and many more! Each section has been beautifully arranged with artefacts relevant to the theme. They have been carefully thought out and displayed. The main highlight of the museum however is Mr Tih, the curator of the museum. He has a deep passion for history and culture, and would share with you his knowledge and wisdom, along with answering any questions you might have on the exhibits. Still a relatively new museum in Melaka, so would highly recommend for everyone to visit, to support such a wonderful effort to preserve history for generations to come.

This little museum is certainly not to be taken lightly. Guest will be transported to the past once they step foot in this beautiful heritage house. It's a 2-storey house with both floors filled with vintage items (some might call it antiques) from types of furniture to all sort of knick-knacks. There is even a small cinema room, an example of how it looked like back in the good old days. It's mostly the 50s to 70s era. My husband and I spent at least 2 hours in the museum enchanted by the things displayed. Mind you the place is not big. Some guest completes the entire museum in 30 minutes. Depending on how you view history. We are avid history geeks so things like this get us. Mr. Tih the museum curator is a very nice man with a very keen interest in history. He will tell you stories of how Malacca once was should you be lucky to speak to him if he's available. We were fortunate to speak to him because there were not many guests in the museum at that time.
Entrance fee to go in will cost RM12.00 for adults and children cost RM6.00. The museum opens from 10am-5pm on Monday-Tuesday, 10am-6pm on Friday-Sunday and closed on Wednesday & Thursday.
It's located beside the historical Malacca river and its approximately 8-10 minutes walk from Jonker Street.
This place is worth to visit if you travel to Malacca. Make sure you bring your camera along.

Really interesting objects and friendly, helpful guide. Mr Tih is really passionate about his museum and enjoys telling people about the history of Malakka. Great for kids. Even found a random calendar from 1958! Highly recommended.

This House of Museums Malacca brought back fond memories of my childhood days. I was not born or brought up in Malacca but this is how Chinese of Southeast Asia grew up with. The cinema, the provision shops, the barber, the hairdresser... the artefacts were authentic and reflective of the old days! Well done and thank you for keeping the chinese culture going and alive.
