Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Kampung Hulu Mosque is a mosque at the northern end of the Heritage City of Malacca. It’s the oldest mosque in Malacca, but I would never have guessed that’s what it was from the architectural style of the building. The architecture is very much south-east Asian and even the free standing minaret owes more to Asian influences than Arab or even Indo-Islamic styles most prevalent for mosques. Even the minbar shows clear SE Asia influence predominating.

Most a must-see, but interesting for the unusual design for a mosque.

The Kampung Hulu Mosque was built in 1720 by Dato Samsuddin Bin Arom, a representative for the Malays during the Dutch colonial period. During that time religious pluralism was allowed to flourish, and the local populations headed by "Kapitans" constructed places of worship according to their needs. This building is fairly unusual for a mosque, inspired obviously more by Sumatran architecture than by the Arab prototype. Instead of minarets there is only one tall tower.
The roof consists of three levels and the inside roof is a dome made of carved sea stones.

The architecture is beautiful and as the first time for me to see a masjid that looks like this.
I don't know what you expect to see inside. It's a place of worship, you can go inside, take a look around and pray if you wish.

The historique of the mosquée is interesting, but frankly speaking ,the inside is not as superb. If it is hot, as it usually is, you don't have to go inside. If you do, no shorts or short sleeves

I used to stop here when visiting Malacca with my family. The mosque is a famous landmark and is of the important remnants of Malacca. Architecturally quite unique in design and appearance, the mosque can be distinguished from it's tiered roof and white minaret.

Was disappointed the Mosque was still closed but walked around it from outside and did get a feel for what it represents for the local people ..glad to see it is being restored to its former beauty. Maybe next visit I will be able to enter.
