This is a small museum about the history of the stamps of Malaysia and to a lesser extent, the postal service of Malaysia. As the postal service really began with the British Empire, the oldest stamps in the collection look a lot like British stamps, that is, containing a portrait of the sovereign. I also learned about the stamps of the individual states prior to the formation of Federal Malaysia, which was actually quite interesting. There’s a cabinet with stamps from the 1950s through to the early parts of this century. I’m no philatelist nor an enthusiast, but I still enjoyed looking at the history and some of the designs, especially one with nature designs.

This museum is quite small and consists of only one floor, but for the small entrance fee, I thought it was interesting.

We recently visited the Stamp Museum (RM1 per adult) during our recent trip to Malacca. The museum only opened in 2007, after our last visit so we were keen to check this this out during our recent visit.

At the Stamp Museum, you can visit 4 upstairs rooms and 1 downstairs room as well as a gift shop which sells.... well, you can probably guess! Stamp collectors and appreciators what is available to be seen here. The collection includes mostly Malay stamps including much from the British colonial period, some random international and modern era stamps are available to be seen as well.

Overall, we spent probably 20-25 minutes browsing through the collection and enjoyed our time at this small museum. We'd recommend a quick stop here for visitors, even those only making a quick trip into Malacca. You can see visit very quickly and they let you take photos inside as well.

Tip: There are several other minor museums along Jalan Kota, where the Stamp Museum is located. You can also visit the Architecture Museum of Malaysia, UMNO Museum and the Malay and Islamic World Museum, which are lined up one after another along this street.

It is quite a cheap museum with a decent collection of various stamps and the history of stamps. If you are a stamp collector or want to emphasize the history of snail mail to your children, you can stop here.

Went there because my in law is stamp collector. The staff told us that this is the 1st museum in Malaysia. Entrance fees for adult RM2/person and children RM1/person. Can see the museum is quite old already but still maintained well. A bit disappointed is most of stamp is photocopy version.
If u plan to buy some stamp for collection, there's a shop located next to counter selling it.

The Museum is nicely tucked between two other Museums but its small size is really charming. Do not expect full fledge exhibition of world history of stamps but if you are interested to know more about the history of Malaysian philatelic since the era of colonial time this is the place. The fee is very minimal and highly affordable for the whole family. If you want to buy stamps there is also a stamp shop which is attended by the friendly Mr Khoo who gladly assist you to choose a big collections of FDC,stamps and even banknotes not only Malaysian issue but some foreigns as well.

A stamp collector evinces not merely interest but demonstrates knowledge -in the art of locating, and intelligent classification. With this are widened areas of global interest while it also enhances geographical and historical knowledge . Being a teacher at all three levels of education; primary, secondary and and tertiary levels of education I think this is one more way of teaching the value of research through such projects and in increasing international exposure and knowledge.
The Museum is small , but on the Jalan and so it occupies a good place as it is also close to the wonderful Islamic World Museum . Though not very big, the display and presentation is good; the Staff is very courteous and smiling; and the vendor was very helpful in helping to show some unique old stamps like the Black Penny; old postal covers including those before and after Singapore was separated from Malayasia. The entrance fee is very low RM1 only ! This is a welcome sign of how the authorities encourage visitors . A visit to this Museum is time well spent .
