Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Highly recommend a visit to the Cathedral. The stained glass windows in particular which show Mary in the life of Jesus are beautifully done as well as the many statues. The interior inspires prayer and future visits. I was just sorry that we were not there for mass--just a visit.

A magnificent cathedral. I've been to many and the Mobile Basilica is a place of exceptional beauty. I would make a special trip here to hear the organ and choir on Easter or Christmas Eve. It is a stunning piece of architecture.

I had breakfast near the Cathedral, and so passing by, I decided to take a look inside. It is a beautiful worship space, far more so than the exterior would lead you to think. I have been to some of the great churches in Europe, and the stain glass windows here compare favorably to many of them. I would recommend a visit here to anyone.

I was not enthusiastic about this stop on a whirlwind tour of downtown Mobile historic sites. I was wrong. Actually, it pulled together some history at other sites because the Catholic Church was so prominent in the early days of Mobile. Easy parking, incredible stained glass windows, and just a beautiful building.

It is pretty nice to see a cathedral like this in the US, when you are more likely to encounter the architecture in Europe. There is a nice little park in front of the church and a little garden off to the side. The cathedral is free to enter and there you get to see some pretty nice sculptures and architecture. It is worth it to see this free attraction and get a glimpse of Europe in the US.

Amazing cathedral! Never thought I would find such a beautiful church and cathedral down south. One of my favorite stained glass windows including the ones I’ve seen in France and Spain. It represents the Infant Mary being presented to the priest. Her expression of sublime admiration is so incredible she looks like she is in a state of ecstacy. The level of admiration is only possible when one practices the height of purity and humility 🙏🙏

It's a quick stop and well worth it. It's beautifully done and very reminiscent of cathedrals in Europe in its style and grandeur. Don't miss the spiral staircase to go down to a small chapel below. It's on the left so be sure to walk all around inside

The stained glass was awesome. The underground burial vault was unique for us. Enjoyed the visit and the neighborhood was quiet .
After the cathedral visit we went to Oakleigh neighborhood and enjoyed a walk through the area. Many homes were built in the late 1800’s and are well kept.
Finished with a lunch at Felix’s Fish Camp. Don’t miss the crab soup. It made the trip special.

Very beautiful cathedral from the stained glass windows to the ceiling of fleur de lis, shamrocks, and Rose of Sharon (?). We should have gone down the spiral staircase to the crypt chapel. The gardens outside had some pretty flowers and shrubs. On the south side there's a huge, ancient magnolia tree, but it has a couple of limbs that look like live oak limbs. I realized that it may be an Indian trail marker that was formed when the tree was young by making a horizontal bend several feet off the ground. A Muskhogean tribe relatives of the Choctaw lived in this area.

We tried several times to enter the basilica only to find it locked. But today was the charm. We found parking right outside Cathedral park. It is a beautifully maintained building and very welcoming. Downstairs we saw the crypt. It’s a 15 visit but worth it.

The Cathedral is open daily from 8:30- 4:30 pm. There is no charge to visit this beautiful church. I would check the schedule for the times when Mass is being offered.

I would like to know can we go into the Church to see it without going to Mass?
Written 5 July 2016
Yes you can. It is locked at night but open each day. Masses are usually in the morning and noon on weekdays and a Mass on Sunday. There are funerals and weddings from time to time also but to again answer your question you can just walk in most any day.
Written 5 July 2016
Yes, but you have to know when the Church is open.
