It consists of several streets small and big including some narrow alleys and poorly lit lanes. Architecture varies but someone could find (not easily) some small treasures - most of which are occupied now by boutiques (most close at 9 p.m.), eateries and residential premises. be prepared to stroll solely after 8 p.m. which could make you feel unsafe and... You feel like you are experiencing a bit of Paris in Asia. A bit of something for everyone. Lovely boutiques and unique stores. GREAT selection of restaurants, wine bars and coffee houses. Check out the Bunker - inside and to the back of Green & Safe. You wouldn't know it's there unless someone tells you - awesome spot for drinks.... More

Get lost in this area. The labyrinthine streets where you will chance upon hole in the walls cafes and restaurants. Feast yours eyes on the day to day lives of the local Shanghainese folk. Don't be shy on trying the local streets snacks. Some of the best can be sampled. Look out for locals who buying and these would be... More

We were lucky to catch a great cool sunny day and the place made so much sense for a lovely walk. Not crowded, full of restaurants and nice coffee shops definitely is the perfect choice for lunch or dinner . Do not miss it. Enjoy

This place was a bit soul less. Very well kept and spotlessly clean. Lots of clothes shops (none of which were mid-range). I'd hoped for a glimpse of 'old' Shanghai, but instead got 'Disney' Shangai.

We arrived in Shanghai on our first visit to China. We wanted to have a tour of the French Concession with a guide so we could make the most of our trip. Kelly our guide was excellent. Knowledgeable, helpful and great company. The tour was conducted at a our pace and never felt rushed. We went on a 3 hour... More

Love it! The real international historical China. Chic boutiques, cafes, restaurants. I stayed at a Hotel in this area and decided to come back to Shanghai just because of this area! Beautiful area with beautiful buildings too.

Getting 'lost' in the French Concession was the highlight of our 5 day visit to Shanghai. Beautiful tree lined trees, old buildings, beautiful architecture, bars, restaurants, nice boutiques.... A world away from the high rise buildings and shopping malls.... Try to book a bicycle tour and cycle through the little alleyways; you will see a world that will soon not... More

Spent the last morning on a pleasant stroll through the former french concession. Beautiful area, and a great respite from the buzz that is Shanghai. Along the way you can also visit Tianzifang, Zhou En-Lai and Sun Yat Sen former residence.

Lovely residential, shopping, street food and superb restaurant area with old French architecture and trees lined up along the many narrow streets. This area is charming and an absolute must to visit in Shanghai.

Staying in Xintiandi

Neighbourhood Profile
The refurbishment of a block of old shikumen into a carless entertainment center called Xintiandi, filled with restaurants, shops and bars, turned this area below South Huangpi Road into one of Shanghai’s most fashionable areas. Luxe condos house people who can afford the high-end brands that fill the malls and shops along Madang Road. The pleasant Taipinghu Park provides the area with green space and is also home to Shanghai Fashion Week twice a year. It’s not all glitter and glamour, though, as the rise of Danshui Road has given the Xintiandi area a shot of toned-down character. Small bars and cafes, mostly owned by locals, have people hanging out in a formerly quiet, unassuming part of the neighborhood.
