Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Riding in a speed on the other side of 400 km/h is an experience. Like many others I had to look at the visualization of the speed in the wagon and many like me were sitting the cameras ready to take the shot of the maximum speed. The worst part about the ride is all the corrupt taxi drives at the train station. All of them will try to cheat you.

Coming into Pudong airport in the evening around 8pm, I did not want to hassle or haggle over price with a cab driver, so I decided to take the maglev train. The signage after you go through customs is excellent, so it was easy to follow the signs to the maglev -- just be sure to make the right turn when the sign points that way. Make sure you show your airline ticket for a 10 RMB discount (40 instead of 50). At almost 200 mph, it was a smooth and quick 5-6 minute ride to Longyang station, where it was again easy to follow the signs and cross over to the metro. For English speakers, you can press the English button on the kiosk to make it easy to purchase your ticket -- just select the station you're going to and make sure you have cash (get it at the airport if you need it). It was just another 10-15 minutes (5 stops) to the Pudong station (Lujiazui) -- for less than $1 -- which lets out right at IFC mall. The Ritz Carlton is attached to the mall (lots of signage in the mall), and the Shangri-La hotel is across the street. Other Pudong hotels are nearby.

This topic is about the museum, but most of the people who posted reviews here, merely stated their train ride, which is a different topic.
The museum is located near Longyang Road Station. Entry is free. Inside the museum, there is plenty of information about the history of the maglev train, including how to stop the train in the event of an emergency.

The museum was ok and worth checking out if you are in the area. We spent half an hour in here and felt we saw everything. The museum itself gives a brief introduction to how transportation developed and how maglev systems were tested and improved upon in English and Chinese. The museum is a little dated with some features that don't work.
The museum can be found at Longyang Station below the actual maglev that goes to Pudong International Airport. The museum is free to enter and when we went we had to write down our names and show the green arrows.

The train is great, fast, comfortable and a real asset. I love it. Though, when you arrive at the Maglev station in town with your luggage you have 2 options : either you take the metro line 2 (green line) into town or you become a victim of the Taxi touts standing around. There is no precise taxi stand and the place is owned by a taxi gang who is not using a taxi meter. This is the purest rip off and if you do not have somebody to pick you up (there is also no meeting point) and you cannot take the metro (because of luggage or because it is too crowded), do not take the Maglev train. Except if you enjoy being ripped off.
The trip to the airport is much better. You take a taxi to the Maglev station and 10 minutes later, you are in the terminal. But also here be warned : ALL taxi drivers told me that the Maglev is broken down, that you cannot get a ticket, etc. Usually, they do not speak English, though to rip you off and sell you a more expensive ride directly to the airport, they are well trained in English.
Maglev is a commercial disaster. It can easily be fixed though the interests of a taxi gang seem to be more important than the interests of the travellers for the Chinese local government.

The train was amazingly fast and we reached the airport before we got the chance to relax in our seats. We bought the VIP tickets to try it out, they were double the price of the original tickets. Which is not need for such a short ride.

It was mandatory for our trip planning that this be included in our schedule, the 20 odd minute ride to the airport from Shanghai was wonderful, no vibration was felt, no motion was sensed whatsoever.
I was surprised to be dropped off at the station by my taxi to find virtually no traffic outside, possibly we were at an off peak time which accounted for the train only going.
super efficiency at it's best!

This is one the experiences that Shanghai offers for transportation as well for something unique. Please do take a look at the schedules and maximum speed expected, NOT all the trains reach maximum speed of 431 kms/hr.

We travelled by the Maglev train on our way back to the airport. It is indeed a stunning experience to travel at 430km/ hour. The train journey is for 7 mins and cost 50 RMB per person - one way. There is a train every 15 mins. It does not operate late at night. It is ideal to take the Maglev train on the way back to the airport. The train station is not well connected with cabs and thus I ll not recommend to take the maglev train when someone arrives in shanghai airport (esp if it is the 1 st visit). Do not miss travelling in the Maglev train..... It is a ideal way to finish off the Shanghai trip.

Maglev train is something you must do, when you're in Shanghai! Just be aware, it's not cruising 430km/hr. the whole day, I jumped on a train right at the airport and it went only 300km/hr! Maglev is going 430km/hr. only from 9:00 - 10:45 and then 15:00 - 15:45!!! Otherwise it's only 300km/hr. I came back later and can say, that to cruise in 430km/hr. is something incredible! Basicly 30km in 6min! Fantastic! Single ticket costs 50RMB (aprox. 5,50-6EUR), or round trip is for 80RMB (9EUR). If you take Maglev from the airport to Longyang Road Station, you can choose inbetween 2 metro lines. Just follow the signs! Line 7/red, or Line 2/green. Line 2/green is heading to Century Park (the biggest park in Shanghai), Lujiazui (where you find Oriental Pearl Tower, Jin Mao Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center and also Super Brand Mall) and The Bund (amazing view to PuDong side)/East Nanjing Road (big shopping street). So, even if you have only few hours in Shanghai PuDong Airport, you can see quite a lot! Maglev is really cool and practical thing! Shanghai Maglev Museum is good, if you would like to know something more about Maglev itself. It's free and not really big, so you can make it in less then 1hr.

Hola, una pregunta: Es cierto que la máxima velocidad (los 431 Km/h) sólo los alcanza a ciertas horas? Si es así, alguien me podría decir cuales son esas horas o como puedo saberlo? Muchas gracias.

How much luggage can you carry on the maglev train
Written 27 January 2016
There isn't really any limit to the amount of luggage, when we caught the train there was plenty of room. There is a small luggage area near the doors, otherwise your backs should fit near your seat. I think the max weight per case was 23 kg as they can be stored in an overhead shelf.
