I visited this place in November 2011. Two Thousand and Eleven (in case you think that was a typo) I am still using the silk doona I bought there after the amazing demonstration. I live in a hot humid climate and the shop assistant recommended their lightest single layer doona. It's my summer bed covering. I just put it on the bed today for summer. It's still good. Hasn't disintegrated or fallen apart, still comfortable and light to sleep under and it breathes and doesn't make me sweat. If anything ever happened to it I would definitely buy another one.

Having walked around the markets at South Bund Soft Spinning Market at 399 Lujiabang Road and also at the SiLiuPu Market, I came to the realisation that much of what is claimed is silk is not.

So I asked the concierge at the Langham Xintiandi for a recommendation and he gave me a brochure for the Jiang Nan Silk Shopping Centre at Ao Men Road. I was dubious at first, because the brochure looked like it could be one of those 'silk factories' where tour guides take you to, and then proceed to rip you off afterwards. Nevertheless, I took a cab there and was a little dismayed to find some tourist groups sitting around on the steps outside.

However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Jiang Nan wares were priced reasonably. Eg., a silk quilt (super single size) cost me only RMB650. Compare this to what the ShiLiuPu market stall was charging me (RMB2400) The Shiliupu vendor was also giving me some crap about pulling out the silk cocoon in my presence to prove that hers is good quality silk and when I asked her to do it, she said it takes 3 hours and that I can go for a walk and come back for it later. My, I was glad I did not buy from the ShiLiuPu vendor and came to Jiang Nan silk shopping center in Ao Men Rd instead.

At this JiangNan place, I also found very pretty scarves and stoles for evening and all occasions. They were expensive, but well, you can't be expecting a bargain with real silk, can you? One good test is putting it around your neck. After a few minutes, you will know whether it is silk because real silk breathes and does not suffocate.

Besides silk quilts, there were also silk pillows and silk duvet covers. I have been using silk pillows for years and find that they beat any other kind of pillow. I especially like the medium hard texture. I find that the soft does not really support your neck properly. Some of the duvets covers were lovely.

There were also silk clothes and pyjamas, but since my budget was already blown, I did not get any of them. Suffice to say that the items on sale at Jiang Nan Silk were quite stylish and modern. I am glad to report that, because over at Silk King (a well-known silk shop in Shanghai with many branches) the items all looked like they came from grandma's wardrobe. I had stressed that to the concierge when I told him in no specific terms that I didn't want a shop similar to Silk King.

All in all, I am glad to have found this shop and will come again and again on my subsequent trips to Shanghai.

Summary: The items on sale here are a lot more reasonably priced and more updated than those to be found at Silk King.

We visited Jiang Non Silk Shopping Center in March 2013. I purchased a silk quilt for approximately $125 and love it. It is of the perfect weight for both winter and summer use. However, I am trying to find a site on the internet to purchase another quilt and am having no luck. Can anyone help me?

Poor quality and dishonest sales practices!
Don't buy anything from this business. They miss represent items and have some very poor quality items.
Doona/ Duvet was sold as a summer and winter $293 Aus dollars. We put it on and froze it was a low of 5deg .
Men's 100% silk underwear buy 4 get 1 free. After 1 wear they are so out of shape and unwearable.
Funny how there are no contact details for this business anywhere?
They really put on the big sell to get suckers to buy the products. They put you in a room close the door and do a big presentation on the quality and pricing pushing you to buy and if like us you believe them they don't care they will never see you again and you can't contact them .

if the tour gets boring, just wander into the showrooms. On the advice of our china guide, I bought three silk quilts. They are amazing souvenirs. when shrinkwrapped at the showroom they are very flat and go right in your suitcase. I have slept under a silk quilt every night for 9 months now.... the best best best! They come in heavy and light versions. The light is perfect yearround for florida.

The tour is very interesting. BUT, when they show you the overpriced duvets, which come in all bed sizes, and you purchase the "cover" to button onto it, they next demonstrate how they can compress the duvet for easy shipping. Watch for the sleight of hand as what they do is reach under the counter to pull out what you will actually purchase, to wit, a duvet with absolutely no stuffing, that when held up to the light shows literally most of it with absolutely no stuffing at all.

They appeared to be good quality and the sales person assured me that the items I purchased had inner hooks to attach the cover and no seems. I should have inspected my purchase! When I arrived home I discovered no hooks and a seam down the middle of my silk cover! BEWARE

We visited this wonderful factory and shop in August 2017.
I had no clue prior that a silk duvet was even a product !
I do know silk clothing breathes !
It's warm !
It's cool !
It's has a beautiful feel !
We as parents had silk worms as a part of our children's growing up !
Robbing mulberry leaves from trees in our neighbourhood to feed the little worms and received THE most beautiful yellow cocoons of silk !
Feed them lettuce when the trees ran out of leaves and you get white cocoons !
Anyway enough of history.
We watched listened and purchased a king silk duvet suitable for Qld temperatures , and I have NEVER had such a wonderful sleep under a lightweight cover !
I double sheet mine as I also have experienced the slippery slide of a silk sheet and spending the night chasing it !
I cannot recommend enough buying such an amazing product and it squashes down to nothing in your case to bring home .
I am about to order more as Christmas presents for our children !
Best $ 150.00 I have spent for a wonderful sleep 😊
Loooooove them

As part of our tour we visited the Jiangnan Silk Workshop in Shanghi. As we first arrived we were taken to a room to show the different stages of the silkworm, very interestion. Then after that into the next room where whey were showing how the silk is taken off the cocoon and spooled. This part was fantastic, next they will show you how they spread out the silk to make comforter. All of this was really interesting. Now enough of the learning it is time to sell you something. 1st they get you will the silk comforter in the bag without the liner, around $150 us for a king size. Then they will take you to the high end silk outer sets which will go from $2500 to $5000 and if that is too much they will keep going down in price for other pieces to the least amount which is $500. After you decide on that you go to the next room where they have bulk silk, and silk everything, scarfs for $100 each and more, pajamas, coats just everything. My wife said she had died and gone to heaven. I am not sure how competitive they are on the market but they have beautiful stuff. It is well worth the visit.
