Nice for an overview of the Shanghai area

Good place for a short visit to get an overview of the past, present and future of Shanghai. Some old photographs are quite nice, but the clear highlight is the huge city model.

This exhibition covers a full five floors and is excellent, very informative picture of how Shanghai grew and became the city it is today - I found the old and new photograph comparisons fascinating plus a whole floor is dedicated to a tiny model of the whole city. Very well done and really worth a visit. Highly recommend!

Really interesting background on the history of the city as well as future planning. It was a great activity on a cold and rainy day. I learned a lot and was inspired to do further reading after the exhibit. The focus on environmental planning and transpiration was really interesting, and the scale model was a mind blowing view on just... More

Great exhibition that shows you what Shanghai WAS, and what Shanghai WILL BE. The best part is the huge and I mean HUGEEEEEE model of the inner ring of Shanghai. The details of the model are truly spectactular. Upstairs there are physical pictures of "before and afters" of high profile streets or buildings which is also a great way to... More

That an Urban Planning Centre open to public was available was surprising to me. The model of the city is certainly worth a visit. The aspirational 3-D show also worth a watch.

At 30 RMB, this is a great deal for anyone interested in the history and ambitions of Shanghai. While some of the text on displays is a bit campy and long winded, the photographs of Shanghai in the past, and the history is great. The museum can be done in 45 minutes (you scan photos and race to the 3rd... More

I had no idea what to expect when arriving at this museum and had expected this to be a bit of a 'bore' with the pre-requisite historical black and white photos of the history of Shanghai. And, upon entering, this museum certainly had lots of history and photos--the first 2-3 floors had plenty of this. However, it wasn't until I... More

Worth spending a few hours here. Gives a historical view of Shanghai and also how they are planning for the future. Interesting to see the development and planning for one of the largest cities in the world.

Staying in People’s Square

Neighbourhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
