This beautiful zoo emphasizes education and preservation of birds as well as other animals. There are many species here and they are easy to see. All of the animals at this zoo are there because they were injured or orphaned or needed help in some other way.

There is probably over 100 species of birds alone at this Zoo. However, they have many animals as well such as Iguanas, Sloths, monkeys, etc. It's surrounded by many forest lands and fairly hilly terrain. There is also a Canopy zip line tour you can take.

This is a great place to take your family to see the animals of Costa Rica up close. It's a very beautiful, very well run, animal rescue zoo. The grounds (trees, flowers, etc) are gorgeous, and for a zoo they do the best they can to give the animals a nice place to live. We saw people bring in an... More

Zoo Ave (That’s ‘ave’ as in birds, not ‘ave.’ as in avenue) is a wonderful day trip from San Jose. Here you can get a taste of the diversity that makes Costa Rica so unique. A nature preserve and research center that has a splendid bird collection, it also has many native cats, including jaguars….and that may be the only... More

This facility provides a great opportunity to see animals very closely if you miss them in the wild. It is a great support the facility with your visit so they continue their important work of rescueing animals.

We went here because our travel guide book said you could view the magnificent quetzals here, but turns out they haven't been kept at the zoo in a few years. It was fun to see the peacocks walking around, but I'd rate this zoo as average.

This is an amazing place. Very interesting seeing so many different animals. The birds in the beginning were awesome. And the lizards walking around was kinda scary. Amazing place to see.

I don't love zoos, but this one at least felt a little better than going to one with tiny steel and concrete cages. The animals were in their natural habitat for the most part. Cages aren't really covered so if it's raining, the animals are in the rain too. Because of our short trip to Costa Rica, this zoo provided... More
