We drove from Riu guanacaste to the arenal volcano (3 hour drive) and you have to go around this magnificent lake to get there. There's plenty of hills and greenery to see on the way. The lake from the hill top is stunning. The views from all areas are breath taking. We didn't go boating on the lake but we... More

Quiet 40 minute trip with lots of birds, beautiful scenery ( and volcano views) Enjoy the ride and the welcome from the local children who lug your luggage up the muddy verge the other end ( and smile hopefully to earn a small tip )

We rented a car and drove around this beautiful lake. Some dirt road driving. Lots to see and just a beautiful destination.

We caught a ride with some folks around the lake and it was a pretty drive! There's a restaurant at the end of the lake with nice views that's worth stopping at - you'll see plenty of tourist vans doing the same thing. We just opted to go out, take a couple photos and then hop back in the car... More

Our trip to Lomas del Volcan from Liberia took us around half of the lake, with outstanding vistas from the coast road. We stopped for lunch at a very scenic spot with the lake spread out below us and the majestic Arenal Volcano at the far end. Although many day trips offer zip lines and sightseeing at treetop level, for... More

We drove north around the lake. Very nice view, and from this side you could see the volcano (socked in from the hotel side). Small hotels and restaurants in this area.

We looked forward to a pleasant drive on a lake shore. In reality there are very few places you can actually get to the water. The drive is long with little opportunity to see the actual lake. If you're driving past, it's worth it. Wouldn't go out of the way to do the drive.
