About
The family owned and operated natural hot springs, which allow only a limited number of guests each day, provide a private, relaxing oasis during your vacation. There are five pools, one with a cascading waterfall, which reach up to 108 degrees Fahrenheit. There is no better way to unwind after a long day than by visiting the hot springs and treating your body to its naturally replenishing effects. When taking a break from the soothing hot springs, you can dine in the authentic, home-style Costa Rican restaurant.

We went in the evening, in the rain and it was magical. They are very safely conscience. We had to wash our hands before going up the the counter. Towels and a locker were supplied. You were asked to choose a time for dinner so it was not overcrowded and the food was very good. Great place to relax in several different temperature pools. They even had a pool to cool you off. Showers and a hair dryer were supplied also. Great way to spend an evening.

The natural springs and overall experience was amazing. The staff was professional and the grounds were spectacular! We bought an evening package that included finding— not sure what it would have been like if I hadn’t ordered beef tenderloin - it was awful. I would not recommend dining at the restaurant.

Chose this place as they state that they limit numbers for a relaxing experience - not so. I arrived 30 min after opening time and grabbed the last sun bed. A minority are in the shade, hardly suitable when you're going to be in and out of the hot water. Avoid in the day time if you burn.
The rules state no radio / music etc but apparently you can play annoying games with the sound on. Actually more annoying than a more constant noise. I did complain but barman did not agree it was an issue. You will need your headphones and then you hope your phone doesn't get nicked so not secure.
I was assured the drinks were very good quality. I ordered a Holy Spirit which was ruined with sweet red syrup (not listed on the menu description) such that you couldn't taste the other ingredients. Avoid their overpriced watery (from ice) drinks.
There were slimy leaves submerged in one of the upper pools (that runs into the rest), no way of knowing if it was the one that causes a bad skin rash. I've forgotten its name but it was growing nearby.
I was asked about my experience on leaving and explained the above. They weren't interested in doing anything, wouldn't even take the disgusting drink off. The woman I was speaking to asked her colleague who, on the basis of looking at me for a few seconds, decided no. I wonder then what the point was in asking me how everything was and this encounter just added to the unpleasantness of the day.
The toilets and changing rooms were clean and spacious and the food was quite nice. Don't bother booking lunch though, you won't want to stay that long.
If you're not cost sensitive and you think this may still be a nice option in the evening at a quieter time of year, maybe so. Then be aware the 'cool off pool' is barely cool and very small so you won't get a a cool off between sessions Finnish style if that's what you're imagining.
All in all very disappointing and, given all the options in La Fortuna, definitely don't waste any day time here.

Entrace was ok.
Pools a bit dirty in the morning with a bunch of drink cups from last night..
Food/lunch was also Ok.
Negative comment to the waitress who received and served us at the restaurant - real rude.

We enjoyed a relaxing afternoon at Ecotermales. The thermal baths are clean and beautiful as are the locker rooms. We opted for lunch in the restaurant first. The food was great and included soup, casados, juice and dessert. It was our most expensive meal of our trip. The service was slow and inattentive, but we enjoyed the food and our teenagers rated it their favorite meal of the trip. We found out snacks, burgers, etc. are available from the bar and would do that instead next time. The staff was very friendly. It wasn't crowded and we loved floating around watching the toucans in the tree. A great stop after a morning of hiking!

It was our first time in this hot springs, very clean , safe , our kids really enjoy the day , it has two bar areas and a restaurant. They provide a towel and a locker. It’s better to leave the towel in the locker since it may get wet.

This was a great option for hot springs. Was smaller, and when we went in mid-week afternoon wasn't crowded at all. There was plenty of parking. Check-in process was smooth and easy. Bathrooms also had changing rooms with showers. Towels and lockers were free and clean. There are several different 'pools' with differing temperatures marked on the side. Several had mini waterfalls you could sit under. There is also a restaurant, and though we didn't have food, we did have frozen drinks which were good (charged to the number of your wrist band and paid for when you check out). Overall a very enjoyable experience.

Awesome, relaxing experience. Came here on the recommendation of our guide as a favorite of the locals. Spotless thermal pools, grounds and locker rooms in a serene environment. There’s a sit down restaurant with tasty food, drink/bar area, and hot and cool water pools for soaking. Towels are provided, lockers available, pleasant staff.

We went to Ecotermales as part of a tour and had a great experience. The staff do a great job of telling you about the property. There are lockers for all of your belongings. They only allow a certain amount of people in at a time so we had plenty of space to spread out and it never felt crowded at the six different pools. They had lounge chairs all around and built in lounge chairs in some of the pools. The buffet meal was good and our cocktails were delicious. The staff at the restaurant were very nice. We could have spent longer here, the time was so relaxing but went by quick!

We had bought evening tickets including dinner, and found the pools wonderful. There was sufficient room for us to feel relatively private, and a variety of pools. The rain was pouring down, which made it quite special.
However, the romantic mood was somewhat spoiled by the dinner which was a boring buffet with limited options. The food tasted decent, but did not look very appealing and at the steep price it was probably the worst "tourist trap" of our entire trip.
The hot springs are recommended, but we suggest booking without dinner included.

With sunset so early right now, is the dark a problem for getting around the various pools during the evening reservation time?

I think it was $40 each. There is a deal that includes a meal but it was fairly basic food. We paid separately for food. That price is from 10am to4pm. There is another period from 4 to 10pm too for the same money.
Lots of places to stay. We stayed at Campo Verde which was very good. We reviewed it too.
They recommended reservations but we didn’t and had no problem. You can visit and view the springs area for free to see if you like it. We did that and went back the following day.

I want to visit Ecotermales in February for the daytime visit (10-4).
Do I have to arrive exactly at 10 am or can I choose to arrive later if I want?
How far in advance should I reserve?

We just went on our own schedule, you don’t need to be there exactly at 10. On the other hand, we were and almost had the place to ourselves.

Hi,
I’ thinking of going there in the evening, but i’m not sure about the transportation... we are renting a 4wd, but how dangerous would it be driving back to our hotel at night (we’re staying at the casa luna hotel)?

Shouldn’t be a problem. The main roads around there seemed easy to follow and not bumpy/pot holed. The road to Arenal volcano was very rocky so I would avoid that one in the dark. We also did the springs in the evening and enjoyed a meal in the restaurant too. Hope you have a lovely time.

It this hot springs appropriate for kids? We have a 4, 6, 8, and 10 year old who really want to experience hot springs but want to make sure kids are welcome and safe.
