Our guides Augusto and Elesere from Arsenal Adventurs were fantastic! The hike is good hard work, and the rewards are fabulous: swimming in a crater lake, swimming in the waterfall pool, seeing a beautiful sunset at the Observatory Lodge, and laying in a thermal fed...More

Green Lagoon start to top. Difficult scrambling style hike without "trail" style switchbacks. Very muddy on our date. Great views, wildlife birds, jungle top of trail. It was too much to walk down to the Observatory as part of the day.

The trail up to the crater and view of Arenal is badly eroded once you can get into the forested area. The hurricane in November and subsequent rain has made this trail very hard - a scramble or climb in places. The climb down to...More

We completed the hike up the side of the volcano for the second time this year and enjoyed once again. It is a strenuous hike, take lots of water and some foods as there is none available once on the trail. It costs $12 per...More

I read reviews on Cerro Chato and not having done any challenging hikes I was a bit nervous heading into this climb. At 55 yrs of age and having done regular fitness classes it turns out I was quite well prepared for the climb after...More

Started our hike at the Aernal observatory lodge, $10 - $15 fee to gain entrance to the trails. Nice easy start to the hike is rather deceiving. When you get to the actual trail head, it gets more challenging in a hurry. I was there...More

The hike starts out easy enough but gets more challenging after you pass the gazebo. At that point it becomes more of a climb. Expect to get dirty as it can be very muddy esp. after a rain. We saw lizards, birds and a coati...More

This was a challenging and beautiful hike! Be prepared to get dirty, especially if hike down to the lake at the end. Though it is not that long in distance, allow yourself 4 hrs (even if you are in good shape)- there is a lot...More

Had probably the most difficult/rewarding hike I have ever taken. We had a guide which I cannot argue isn't necessary it was greatly appreciated. Jorge from The Back Packers tours taught us so much about the area and the terrain. We paid 55/person and got...More

This was a tough hike and I'd doubt anyone would argue. We started at the Green Lagoon Wellbeing resort which is 20 minutes outside La Fortuna. You do need a 4wheel drive to manage a drive from the waterfall parking lot. My wife argues you...More
