The journey up to the volcano is beautiful, it was so interesting to see the agricultural practices and the views of the blue mountains are incredible. Once at the volcano I felt I’d never seen a landscape like it before; it seemed so alien! Yes the lakes have dried up and if the clouds start rolling in then visibility is... More

Irazú volcano is one of the highest places in Costa Rica, there you can see some important things about volcanos in Costa Rica. There is a cold place, so I recommend to wear sweater and gloves. It's a good place for relaxing and knowing something new.

Got lucky as the heavy cloud coverage cleared after about ten minutes and we had great views. Felt a bit embarrassed for having all my winter woollies on - hot up there when the sun is out. $15 is a bit steep for what it is but volcanoes are volcanoes and have to be seen.

Things to do: - Visit both craters (old and new one) and walk thru the beach which has a lake due to recent tons of rain from hurricane. - Walk to the top (3,432 mamsl) to watch cities at Central valley, north plains and Turrialba volcano (which is active these days throwing ash). - Watch the diversity of unique plants... I was a bit disappointed as it is rather a tourist spot than a national park. We wanted to do some hiking but you can only stroll around of one of the lakes.

Ok I was informed that the price per tourist was $8 but the charged us $15. It was easy for us because we spoke spanish but when I asked the clerk at the gift shop she told me that you must be very lucky to see the crater because of the mist most people don't get to see us. Like... More

Title says it all really. $15 to walk behind a fence and not see into the crater at all. Long journey to get there and you're left on your own to get back. Expensive gift shop with rubbish coffee. Avoid!

During our trek through Costa Rica we walked to this volcano and climbed up to the top, the views were great but would have been better if clear skies

Irazu Volcano is only one hour and thirty minutes away from the capital city San Jose, therefore the location is great. The entrance to the national park costs $15, and its worth it because as you can see in the pictures you get to be very close to the crater and have a wonderful view! The only reason I don't... The trip was pretty long to get there from San José. Once there, we obviously paid the 15$ entrance and what we found was disappointing. No lake inside the volcano as pictured in all the photos we saw online, the national park was so small that if you wanted you could see everything in maybe an hour and no real... More
