Our San Jose Walking Tour is a must during your visit to the capital! For years both locals and foreigners have forgotten what the capital has to offer. San Jose is a city full of history, architectural beauty, colorful gardens and it's citizens are recognized as friendly and happy people. This tour was first started in 2010 and it consists of a historical journey through the capital and aims to show a new side of the city very few people have seen. A more authentic side full of small details that define the culture of Costa Rica.

Food and tourism go hand in hand. Costa Rica has thousands of flavors and ChepeCletas would like to invite you on a tour that can be seen, smelt and tasted. Join us to discover the Central Market, founded in 1880, it preserved the heart and essence of the Costa Rican popular culture. It is possible to find a great assortment of fruits and vegetables, meats, seafood, spices, ornaments, animals and even religious figures. It is known for its sodas (small informal restaurants) which are the oldest and most famous of the country for their food, traditions and personalized service. Many businesses have remained in the same family for up to four generations. Their owners show great pride in this legacy and have found the market to be like a second family. The Central Market is alive and is used by everyone. Visits to this place go far beyond a simple shopping experience; it's a real social experience.

We arranged this at the last minute and were happy that we were given Carla an interesting, educated and informative young guide. We learnt about the history of Costa Rica and how it was reflected in the architecture. The tour culminated in a tasting session in Soda Tala in the central market which was delicious and filling so don't have... More

The tour is amazing. I am costarican and had never seen my city nor learned about it in such a way that I ended up admiring and loving it. The concept is simple, you walk around several important places, listening and learning. I fell in love with my city. I totally recommend it, if you are a national or a... More

After a delayed start due to an accident our bike tour turned into a walking tour which was amazing. We wandered through areas we would never have found, learning much of the early history of San Jose and visiting some of the more interesting galleries. Loved that our guide Jose realized our interests and took us to places off the... More

Our family booked a walking tour at the last minute with ChepeCletas. It was awesome. A perfect way to see the city and decide what areas you want to see more of on your own. Well Organized, bilingual, friendly, safe, etc. Great tour.

I found the people at ChepeCletas to be attentive and well-organized. I was met at the pre-ordained time for a one-person bicycling tour of San Jose, and my guide Charlie was more than capable. I enjoyed the trip!

We had Carla in San Jose, and I don't know what we would have done without her. Perfect way to start our time in that city, very knowledgeable, so much fun to spend time with. Carla, if you are reading this, you have an instant tour guide in us anytime you come to NY to visit!

I have been exploring San Jose an number of infinite times since the 1980's. While accompanying guests yesterday, I still managed to enjoy San Jose in another perspective. I was thrilled to realize how much the city has changed over recent years to become a delightful, more pedestrian friendly city. It is now one that I would recommend that visitors... More

ChepeCletas – So there I was: no chance of catching the city tours available and with 6 hrs. to spare before heading to the airport. Luckily GoVisitCostaRica (they who planned my trip) had connections with the college-student based ChepeCletas (“Chepe” nickname in Spanish for José; “Cletas” abbreviation for “bicicletas”, bycicles). This dynamic, well-informed and reliable group of students *luv* San... More

This was an excellent experience. I have been visiting San José for years, but the ChepeCletas guides included stops I didn't know, alongside longtime favorites. The guides are knowledgeable, welcoming, and friendly, and they created an experience that was enjoyable, safe, and educational. Though they change destinations each time, on the evening that I went, stops included historical locations and... More
