An average city park with a misleading name. Perhaps because of the national monument symbolizing the struggle for independence in the center of the park it is called national park. Maybe the only NP in Costa Rica for which there is not a hefty fee for foreigners to enter. Remarkable are the light green benches, the green parrots, other beautiful... More

This national park is as much like Yellowstone as any park I have ever seen outside the US. There are bubbling mud pots, steamy fumaroles, gurgling hot springs and huge waterfalls. The short basic hike also exposes the hiker to dry and rain forests plus we saw two groups of wild monkeys in the trees on our journey.

Go there with a book, sit on a bench and enjoy the local life there - especially in weekends. Also check with the locals if there's any events going on. When I was there on Saturdays in 2014, the park would be full of different kinds of games for young and old. I liked it!

The park was pretty empty compared to other parks downtown, and much more naturally beautiful and green. Very relaxing.

The National Park was a great stop for a coffee and respite, with a lot of bench seating and grassed areas to relax. The park was quite sparsely filled, primarily with families with young children.

the parks are all very much of muchness, not overly large but nicely planted and a home for many birds, we found once seen one the rest were the same

If there's one thing I can say about Costa Rica it's that there's lots of public spaces for people to enjoy and every one of them seems to be well manicured and constantly maintained. This is particularly true of the National Parc. Such a beautiful setting and place to spend some time on a beautiful day.

not worth bothering with. The coach was late which meant everything was rushed and too noisy for being able to see anytihng

We were amazed at how many beautiful parks, really large parks, there are in San Jose, plenty of seats, lush gardens in some of them and trees to block out the sun, though it rained every day except for 3 days in our 33 days stay in Costa Rico

Dark at night, but great during the day, not a huge park but it is nice and peaceful place, very close to downtown.
