Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

On the first morning of our Costa Rican trip, we took the VIP City Tour. This turned out to be an excellent, historical tour that included lunch. Our tour guide, Sergio, explained everything both in English and Spanish! The history was very informative and the pace, while quick, was not so fast that you couldn’t grasp it all. We visited the National Theater, the Gold Museum and the National Museum of Art. Excellent!!! The lunch was at a local restaurant (unidentified). The food was very tasty and served hot. I definitely recommend this tour to give you a “feel” for the beautiful country of Costa Rica and city of San Jose.

We read some interesting information about this tour on TripAdvisor and read through the tour company's website, but then found out that it is no longer in operation. We spent the morning traveling by car into downtown San Jose and went to the National Theater, the main hub stop for this tour. After spending some time looking for someone connected to this tour, we were told by a gentleman that they were no longer in business. We then actually called the phone number listed on the website and received a prerecorded message (from an operator) that said something like the number was no longer valid.
We were terribly disappointed because part of our day was wasted.

You could still see the bullet holes in some of the older buildings right down town. At the end of the civil war, the army was disbanded and Costa Rica has no standing military. They are a peaceful democracy. Lots of ex-pats have settled there. San Jose has a lot of interesting sights. But, the traffic is really a zoo. They have most of the popular chains found in America. I prefer the Northern cities which are quite rural and laid back.

We have a part-time home in Costa Rica. Our only experiences in San Jose were to come and get things we need and get out. We finally to face our fears and let someone else brave the traffic in order to see the sights. Our drivers patiently negotiated the streets and guides expertly described the sights. Thanks to Marco, Andy, and Edgar. You have tamed the tiger for us. Muchos gracias! Great way to spend a day..

When a volcano eruption closed the airport, my sister and I spent an unplanned additional day in Costa Rica after our rafting trip on the Pacuare river. Luckily we found a microbrewery tour in San Jose offered by City Square. The business owner and CEO himself, a knowledgeable and personable young man, accompanied us on the tour. He had worked in a local microbrewery, so he was able to get us extensive behind-the-scenes access to the whole operation. The German-trained brew meister at the first brewery was happy to share copious samples of his delicious work with us and answer all of our questions. The second of two breweries we visited was a restaurant-style operation where by-products of the brewing process were incorporated into various dishes. Here we were offered our choice of eight beer samples from their extensive lineup. All were delicious. The business owner offered to take us to additional breweries at no additional charge if we wanted, but after spending the better part of the day at the first brewery, we chose to remain at the second brewery and enjoy the comfortable atmosphere and tasty food. I should also mention the amazing tour van driver. Not only was he skilled at navigating the grid-locked traffic, he was courteous and thoughtful, cheerfully allowing other drivers stranded on jam-packed side streets to enter into traffic in front of him. Both the owner and the driver impressed me as likeable people. I’ll probably visit them the next time I’m in San Jose CR. This was a deluxe tour at a bargain price. I’d gladly do it again -- and probably will!

A van picked us up at our hotel and took us downtown to ride the tour bus. It was a 2 hour very informative tour. Traffic is horrendous so it is the best way to travel this beautiful city. Our tour guide spoke English and was easy to understand, also they stopped at a few sites so we could take pics. We did not hop off until we arrived at City Market, so we only missed one other stop on tour. Well worth the money and I highly recommend this tour company.

Discovered this tour by accident and made a last minute reservation. Arrangements were made for us to meet the tour at a designated location. One of the guides Marco met us and walked us a few blocks to meet the tour van with the driver, tour guide and other customers. The tour guide, Andres, was excellent and very informative. He made the guests feel like everyone had their own personal guide as he thoroughly answered all questions, made recomendations for sites to see and places to dine. At the end of the day, Marco met us again to make sure that we were settled for our trip back to our hotel.

I asked the front desk staff to call the number on my voucher and Andres replied that they would be picking me up at the hotel and dropping me off at the end of the day. There was only one other person on my tour, which was great. We both received personalized service. The tour guide was informative, spoke very good English and stopped the van whenever we wanted to get a photo. I did tour the town and went through the Gold and Jade museums which were extra for admission, but were very interesting. The Central Market was very hot and busy the day I visited. This tour was excellent and I would recommend anyone visiting San Jose take this tour on their first day.

I normally don't like city tours, but I just took their tour and it was an awesome trip. Starting with their comfortable bus, topped with true tour guides and spectacular customer service, this company is really the best option to get to know San Jose at its best. Feel free to book a tour and be amazed by this charming city.
