Visited Barrow Beach in the summer. Enjoyed it very much. Certainly a must see in Barrow. Lots of Whale Bone displays as well as other Barrow sights.

I was there in late May and it was very different then the reviews I just read. When I went our group was advised NOT to go too far due to polar bears. There was even a LARGE sign warning of them. My son of course didn't heed the warning and climbed out onto the ice. To me the beach... More

The Arctic Ocean is central to life in Barrow. It's also the only real scenery there, so of course you're going to visit it. Depending on the direction of the wind, it may be choked with ice, even in July/August. If you're hardy, take a dip and get your picture flopping on an ice floe. If the seas are clear... More

Great to just stand and stare. Plenty of birds moving along the coast as the ice breaks up. Flocks of Long-tailed Ducks, Stellar's Eiders and divers. Ringed seals hauled out on the ice keep an eye out for Polar Bears.

My goal was to put my feet in the Arctic Ocean. The ice had moved back in so I had to "walk on water" to a melted pool. What an experience. COLD!!! Really Cold!!! A must do.

The crisp Arctic air felt so good as I was walking around the beach. Luckily there was still ice left near the shore during my visit. I got pictures under the arches and on the Arctic ice - thanks again Joe Sage. I did not expect the brilliant colors of blue throughout the ice. While I was exploring, a local... More

Very wind and just a wee bit chilly -- 31 degrees. The ice pack was still in tack but buckling from the shifting winds. It was interesting to say the least to stand on the ice pack and brave the winds. Grabbed a piece of drift wood, a couple of stones, a piece of sea glass and hustled back to... More

The Arctic Ocean has one of the most severe climates on the face of the earth, and deserves the utmost respect. To be able to say you have been there and stood on the frozen pack ice is a memory that will live with me for ever. Barrow is easily accessible by air with Alaska Air having two flights daily....
