We had a great jeep tour of the valley. The driver stopped often to describe the flora and fauna, the geology, the history and the culture of the island. Be sure to bring water, insect repellant and wear your swim suit. You will probably want...More

A four hour 4WD trip up this gorgeous area (where you can view the old caldera) transformed our impression of Tahiti from tired and crowded to pristine and gorgeous. The Papenoo Valley is extraordinary: 200+ foot waterfalls; pristine streams (where you can swim in gorgeous...More

One of our highlights of the trip was to visit the valley! Obviously you'll need 4WD and there are literally a ton of companies that would offer 4WD tours for a fee. I didn't particularly see any differences all the tours did differently. They all...More

Forget the tours. Buy your pass where necessary and explore, this valley is exquisite. Waterfalls, streams, rainforest and wildlife so alive it is unbelievable. You will need a 4WD or large hire car. One of my favourite experiences in Tahiti.

There is nothing uninspiring about being inside a volcano's crater - even if it hasn't had a blow out in over a million years. Looking up at the cliffs of lava one can easily imagine what it must have bee like while the volcano was...More

We booked with Tahiti Safari for a full day tour into the Papenoo Valley to the crater. We were the only guests so we had a wonderful opportunity to learn about the island culture from our guide, Eric (his real name is about 6 syllables,...More

This is a beautiful and wild valley. A tour guide is recommend, as the rain in the distant mountains at times causes spectacular flash-floods. If they ever make a "French Kiss II" our guide would be perfect for the role of "Luc"
