Russian River Falls is a great hike. At the end we got to see several salmon jumping and the waterfall itself is quite the spectacle. I would say that if you feel comfortable to go on the little trail that leads you under the observation...More

Be aware that you should pack bear spray with you! This is a great place to walk around on the path, or maybe even fish. I've seen a great deal of birds--including a bald eagle! Some friends saw a moose scare a bear away from...More

The Russian River falls trail is stunning in every respect. A well maintained trail for all fitness levels. Being there during salmon runs is an amazing experience, but you also need to be very aware if bears - carry spray and travel in a group.

Located in Coopers Landing, a slight detour from the drive between Anchorage and Seward, this was a great 5 mile (2.5 in, 2.5 out) hike to a beautiful waterfall, great salmon fishing area, and beautiful forest. They have a public bathroom (long drop, but still)...More

I’ve hiked this trail to the falls quite a few times. It’s a great spot for wildlife viewing and a nice hike. But for goodness sake, take at least bear spray, water, bug spray and a coat regardless of the season. I’ve seen and heard...More

The falls are up the trail a couple miles, but the fish there are amazing to watch, the fails are loud and very nice. Great platforms to observe from, well above the water (<30' or so). Lots of people on the trail both times I...More

Totally worth it. Saw 3 black bears and a ton of eagles. Will do it again when I get back to Alaska next year.

We happened to get there during Salmon season, and the best thing we did was to continue walking to the 2nd viewing platform (doesn't sound like real wilderness, i know). From the 2nd viewing platform we could actually see the Salmon jumping up the river...More

A hiking backpack would be better with a two year old but a trail-rated stroller would work as long as you stay on-path. There is a trail extension at the end, just past the falls that is not stroller friendly though.

Gwinns lodge in Cooper Landing rents bear spray. Trail up to the falls is steep.
