Loved this tour. The food was plentiful and all delicious. So was the drink, homemade lemonade, local tropical fruit juice, or wine. The hosts were friendly and informative, as was the organiser who travelled with us. Entree, was as much as a meal, mains had great choices, and all the desserts were delicious. I was too full to go back for seconds! Also appreciated the grace before the meals and prayer of blessing at end of mains, plus the duet of the Cooks National anthem at close of the evening. Even the occasional shower did not detract. Loved the banter between the mains 'boss' and the 'houseboy'. We are just a senior couple, but there were other couples and young people. We warmly recommend this tour, as it gave us a chance to mingle with local people.

At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like this or not, I thought i might be weird. However after the first 10 minutes at the first stop, it was like you were visiting family in their own homes. Each house was unique and the hostesses were warm and friendly. I even teared up a little once I left each location as you really felt welcomed at each place. This is a good opportunity to experience something new and different. Many new foods were experienced on this venture, the drivers were great and each place had live and local entertainment which just added to the beauty of the night. Highly recommended.

This is an essential tour. You meet the local family’s in their homes, as they share their stories and their cuisine. This experience will only enhance your holiday to the Cook Islands and will provide a complete experience which will ensure you take home with you an understanding of the people who make the Cook Islands what they are. A piece of paradise.

We wanted the opportunity to learn about the Cook Islands and the local culture, rather than just spend time in a resort and pretend we had experienced what the Cook Islands have to offer. The progressive dinner, arranged by Cook Island tours, was perfect for our needs. Our family of four were collected from our resort at about 5.30 pm and taken to join a dozen others at our first location – the home where we were to have the first (starter) course of our meal. The host and his wife were hugely welcoming, entertaining and instructive. Wine with a garden tour by our host who instructed us on all the local fruit and other trees that he had grown, was followed by amazing starters - tuna steeped in lemon juice to “cook” for several hours served with a local dish containing chopped banana, apricot jam, mild curry powder, lime juice and coconut cream. This was served with wine or home made fruit drink. He, together with a guy who travelled with us for the whole evening, entertained us as we ate with music and song. Our minibus then took us to the next destination – a lovely house on the hill overlooking the main island school and sports ground. Again, a great welome from the hosts who fed us well and entertined us with local music and song as we ate. The second (main course) here, consisted of a wide choice of local dishes and vegetables with wine and fruit juice. The minibus again took us on to the final destination – another local home with yet another welcoming hostess who provided a dessert course – big variety of chopped island fruits, ice cream and coffee. We had music as we were transferred between houses – our driver and guitar player provided entertainment as well as the music entertainment at each home. This was a hugely entertaining and instructive event and one of the highlights of our visit to Rarotonga. Thank you everyone.

This was SO MUCH FUN!! I feared it would be one of those scripted fake tours where you might as well be on a Disney ride. Instead, it is an authentic view into the lives of Cook Islanders, who generously and graciously invite you into their homes. If we had not done this, we would have missed out on so much about Rarotonga. It is not run often, so do book as soon as you can. The tour is split into 3 courses at three homes. The bus picks you up at your hotel and delivers you to each home. The bus ride itself is a lot of fun, with singing and ukelele playing. You also get to see parts of the island you might not otherwise. The first course was at the home of Nono, who greeted us with flowers and champagne. She gave us a tour of her property and treated us to a talk about the culture of family and property on the Cook Islands. The food was delicious, varied, and plentiful. The banana salad was amazing, and new to us. The second course was at the home of Kafo and Papa Pai. Kafo also spoke with pride of her history and culture and Papa Pai proved himself to be another talented musician. The food was fantastic, and there must have been 20 different dishes (they will have leftovers forever!). Kafo also made sure everyone had wine or fruit juice. The dessert course was at the home of Tara and Bates. I cannot eat sugar, so I didn't even go to the buffet. Then my husband brought me a plate of ripe and delicious fruit. I am deeply grateful for the thoughtfulness of offering fruit! This is an evening we will never forget!! Thank you to everyone that made it possible!!
