McHugh Creek Recreation Area is placed beside the main road 1 to Seward. A wonderful place with picnic tables. The road climbs up a few dozen meters above the sea level which gives the place a good point of view on Turnagain Arm . Also in the place nice routes and abundant water channel, a small lake with clear water... More

But area is now closed for hiking due to a forest fire in August 2016. The trail is washed out and many fallen trees. They hope to open the trail next year.

Beautiful overlook. The fire changed the look. We'll see how erosion affects the area. Fee to park. Rest room. Belugas might be visible if you're lucky. The summer fireweed provides the extra splash of color.

July wildfire has made this a study of how quickly life returns after a fire. We are SOOOO lucky the winds were not in a way to damage more homes. And even luckier that rains cam when they were so needed. I have not hiked much of the area since the fire, but the short part I have done is... More

As old as I am I do love to just sit and watch the younger people hike this area it is a little rugged for me but the view of it is out of this world. You really need to see it.

McHugh Creek Recreation Area along the Seward Highway is a well marked viewing site as well as an active recreational area. It is easy to walk along the paths for a few minutes away from the car or to plan a good hike as a major activity for the day. This entire scenic byway is worth renting a car to... More

My husband lived in Anchorage for almost 2 years. This is a hike we took last summer. It is pretty intense but well worth it.

There are long trails for hikers and shorter trails for those who want an easy walk. The scenery is awesomely beautiful, the area serene and inspiring. We visited in early autumn and the colors added to the already beautiful hike.

We make this a regular stop on our way to and from Anchorage to the Kenai Peninsula. There are short hikes to be enjoyed as well as longer treks for those who are in better shape that me. You can enjoy your picnic in the pavilion or on the trail and there are decent outhouses. Just remember, this IS bear... More

This creek has such great memories. As a kid my parents would take me here on our way from anchorage to soldotna, now I had the chance to stop and show my kids. Had a great time hiking around and enjoying the memories and making new ones with my kids.
