This is easy, laid back outing. What made ours worthwhile was that we had Ray, a 75 year old Ketchikan native for our bus driver. He had tons of history and background info to relate to us. Made the trip really good. Made special stops at salmon run at creek and where eagles were roosting.

One of the best excursions you can take in Ketchikan. They explain the history, tradition, and the making of totem poles. The show there is excellent. Don't miss this wonderful visit.

Booked with a local tour (Sourdough tours) company just down from Cruise ship dock. 40 each. Our driver Richard I believe, was lots of fun. He has lived in Ketchikan for many years, Knows the history of the area because he actually lives there. We did not see bears, but still was lots of fun. He then took us to... More

If you like to learn new things about our history, this is the place. Our tour guide was very knowledgable. I really enjoyed seeing where the totem for this museum are carved. If you can, try to schedule a time when the dancers will perform.

Unless you are willing to make the large inflated cruise excursion, be aware you will not get the special privileges these people are entitled. It is an interesting site of replica and rebuilt totems. For anyone interested in west coast Aboriginal culture, it is well worth the visit. Our tour guide provided us with interesting (if not embellished) stories of... More

Amazing totem poles. Very colorful. All outdoor, but fun even in the rain. Umbrellas provided. A small area to cover. Get a feel for a native village.

Ketchikan is the heart of totem pole culture. At this stop, not only can you see totems on display, but at the shop next door, you might be able to see master totem carvers at work. Nathan Jackson often works and trains his apprentices at this location. They honor the traditions and demonstrate the skills needed to create totems to... More

Our Tlingit guides were very interesting and informative. We especially enjoyed the dancers in the Meeting house.

Best of the 3 Totem locations we visited ( others were nice also - Totem Bight & Potlatch ). Has a much more varied Totem collection, plus Clan House on a hill. On site is real time Totem pole carving by Native American, S Jackson, which is quite a marvel. Admission during the day, but free in late afternoons, which... More

The driver was awesome, the dancers were exquisite. I really enjoyed watching them sing and dance and the native carver of a totem pole was very informative. Personally, I love these experiences and hope that the native people do not feel we are gawking at them nor diminishing their sacred practices.
