Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wow! This is such a beautiful location. The park is well maintained, with clean bathrooms, benches to rest on, a loop of campsites, clearly marked trails, sturdy bridges, etc. The Lunch Falls Loop is an easy hike (.5 miles) through the rainforest. You can access the beach, and you definitely should! It was breathtaking. You can also take the Lunch Creek Trail which is longer (4.8 miles one way) and more difficult but from the portion of it we hiked, very beautiful and worth the effort.

My husband took a cruise back in July of this year. We were not sure what we wanted to do in Ketchikan, but we did know that we wanted to do our own thing, which was away from the tourism of the town. Since we enjoy nature and walking in the woods, we decided to drive to Settlers Cover and hike the short trail to Lunch Falls. There are several steps to climb to get to the falls, but it is so worth it. If you have a chance, also be sure to walk around the campground or go down to the beach, or simply sit on the bench and enjoy the gorgeous view. There are areas where they have steps that will take you down to the beach. We saw several eagles flying around the area. Also while you are in Ketchikan, if you are renting a vehicle, be sure to see Herring Cove, where you will see plenty of eagles. Also before mile marker 10 (beyond Herring Cove), just off of the main road, is another gorgeous and spectacular waterfall. No hiking involved to see this waterfall from the road.

Beautiful views and fairly easy hike along a well marked path. There is a lowly waterfall that is very easy to get to so even if you don't enjoy hiking it is worth the walk.

Imagine a lush, remote forest setting, the seashore on your left and a waterfall on your right. Secluded by the trees we stood on the bridge and wondered at the rushing water and the hundreds of salmon desperate to make it upstream. On the shore seagulls feasted on the salmon that did not make it. Nature can be quite raw but the cycle of life goes on and Settlers Cove gives you just such an example. Do include this lovely place on your visit to Ketchikan and take lots of photos. Take a tent and stay a while if you have time.

Situated at the north end of Tongass Highway. Has nice camping spots, and an easy little hike for people that are not in very good condition, or a difficult hike for people that want a more strenuous workout. Very scenic as it is situated on the beach, but the more strenuous hike follows a beautiful creek up a mountain to a lake.

Our Wild Wolf Tour guide took us to this recently-renovated state park. Beautiful place to sit and enjoy nature or explore the tidal pools. Highly recommend this for kids of all ages.

We hiked the loop at Settlers Cove and were impressed that it is very well-maintained. Saw waterfalls and gorgeous scenery. A little ways out of town but definitely worth the drive!

A gentle sloping trail, or steep stairs, leads from a parking area through beautiful forest to a sandy/rocky beach. Great views of the islands and the water.

This is the first stop off the cruise ship and the shortest...can you take a taxi to it and how long is the hike? Thanks
Written 20 January 2015
The park is out the road a ways. Yes you could take a Taxi but it would cost a fare amount. I would suggest before you hire a taxi you get a quote on the cost from the taxi as to how much they will charge you. There are several Taxis that give tours and they maybe one to talk to. Hopefully you have 3-4 going to help with the cost. Depends on what trail you take on the time. You can always go as far as you have time for and go back. Hope this helps.
