This mansion once belonged to a well-to-do family in Tianjin. Highlights of this attraction is the Chinese architecture, furnishings and family history. The mansion is large so there is a lot of things to see - family bedrooms, meeting rooms, dining rooms, and a beautiful central garden/pond area. This is a worthwhile place to visit while in Tianjin.

A worthwhile visit for tourists, and those generally interested in pre-revolution chinese history and culture - a touch far from the city, an hour or mores travel. A classic courtyard home, though a bit limited in furnishings and art. English speaking guides are available, and the tour is full of information about the local history and art.

It was on the outskirts of Tianjin, so expect a long drive (over 30 minutes), and we spent over an hour... More

Shijia Mansion is the well-preserved/restored family compound of Tianjin's wealthy historic Shi family. My friend and I took the 45-minute bus ride from the city center and spent an enjoyable 2 hours on a self-tour of the grounds. I especially appreciated the rich architectural details reminiscent of those found in Beijing's Forbidden City, although here is on a much smaller... More
