Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed at Neelakanta hotel.Directly on the beach.
Plenty of restaurants at the beach side. Not all of them have a licence to sell alcohol and expect you to drink from mugs and the beer is warm.😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝
Sunbeds and umbrellas for hire at rs100 each for the day
Lots of shops selling the usual holiday souvenirs and tat, so banter to reduce the price.
The lighthouse is worth a visit at rs50 per person. An elevator is available. Beautiful 360° views
Various trips available including the backwater boat trip. Rememer your mosquito spray and bottle of water. Lasts around 2hours from pick up.
Beach is very picturesque but spoilt by litter lying around and little to no bins in the area

This beach is a must visit in Kovalam. The beach and water are very clean. Its delightful getting into the water. There are umbrellas and loungers available on the beach for a reasonable fee.
Some good eateries and shops as well.

We visited Kovalam Beach in early November and stayed at the Neelkanta (60 year old hotel with no lift and with pathetic infrastructure) which is located right on the beach. We could hear and see the Arabian sea from our room and watched many glorious sunsets from there. The boats return in the evening with lights on and make for a serene dusk sight.

Kovalam beach was a real nice walk. Beach is beautiful and clean. Water of course is clean but a bit rough . Lots of beach front shops, hotels, and restaurants. Hats off to the vendors ....they offer you whatever they are selling .....but are always polite and never hassle you.

We stayed in Kovalam for 3 days. Easy walk from Turtle resort to the beach. It’s a nice local beach, except for Christmas Day it’s not that crowded. Rental of beds and surf boards on the beach

The beach is beautiful and not much traffic due to the heavey rainfall at part due to cyclone . I was lucky enough to have good weather on my days to this place. I stayed at Aanandakosha Ayurveda and visited twice the beach , even though I was in my Ayurveda treatments. A worth place to visit.

I'll confess straight up: I'm an Aussie Beach Snob! I generally find overseas beaches overrated & underwhelming compared to our pristines paradises at home. So, I have to admit I was more than mildly surprised (and delighted) to discover Kovalam Beach was far from what I anticipated.
We took an afternoon stroll upon arrival at the hotel and found the beach to be relatively clean, without any signs of rubbish. An early morning walk found us wandering amongst fishermen hauling in their boats & nets, children doing soccer training drills and people practising yoga.
In the afternoon, we spent a couple of hours swimming in the Arabian Sea (it has such a magical sound to it, doesn't it?) We hired lounges, umbrella & towels and spent our time splashing around in the waves. Again I was mildly suprised by how clean the water was. Although it was a tad too warm for my liking, it was still refreshing. All in all, we enjoyed our 2 day stay at Kovalam seaside.

Very crowded but pretty beach, just north of Lighthouse Beach. There are shops with inexpensive clothing and trinkets...lots of haggling. A bit rundown. I wouldn't feel safe roaming around here at night, alone.

At what time is the first bus available from Kovalam beach to Trivandrum Junction / East fort bus stop?
Since I have other plans for that day, just want to take the earliest bus.

Hi visiting again in December are there as many Russians there as Goa. How much is kingfisher beer as well. Be grateful for answers
Written 9 May 2016
Hi, there are many Russians in Kovalam from November until March. Beer in restaurants on the beach promenade is around 240-250 Rupees. But there is a bottle shop on the main road, near the pharmacy, near the bus stop, there you can get beer for 90-130 INR - also wine and is cheaper.
