Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Biserica Manastirii (a.k.a. The Monastery Church) is a Gothic church formerly part of a medieval Dominican monastery. The monastery was started in 1289, and closed in 1888, one of a network of monasteries initiated by Paulus Hungarus (Paul the Hungarian) to act as a bulwark against heresy. The church was rebuilt between 1482 and 1515 after Mongol and Tatar invasions, and again after Sighişoara's great fire in 1676. The exterior has elements of late Gothic architecture such as pointed windows, high gabled roof and a portal framed by receding arches. The west facade is the most impressive, with a triangular pediment framed by three tall Gothic windows. The interior has early Baroque features in the pillars, groin vaults, carved pews and organ loft. The alter is richly decorated, and the canopy over the pulpit is intricately carved. Anatolian carpets from the 16th and 17th centuries hang from the walls. The bronze baptismal font contains the Latin inscription, "Baptism banish the forces of evil and the devil” and "This work was made by the hands of Jacob, the one that makes bells, in the Year of Our Lord 1440”. The font, in the shape of an inverted bell, was made in a local workshop in Sighisoara. Mass is held on Sundays. The Monastery Church is open daily 10am-5pm, with an admission fee of 5 lei.

It's located in the center of Sighisoara close to the Clock Tower. You can admire its architecture and the beautiful organ. They have concerts there once in awhile. There is also an oriental carpet exhibition you can see. Worth stopping by.

Built in 1289 - the Gothic style church still standing in the medieval part of Sighisoara - In the Museum square you can find the entrance to the church.
Refurbished on the outside - recently in 2019 - and also on the inside ... it is a very nice place to check-out , for those of you into Gothic architecture and/or history.
Inside the decorations are fairly simple - like in the vast majority of Lutheran churches - however the altar is superbly decorated with a lot of details.
Also the guild stands had and have nice decorative paintings with the marks of the guilds of the old times.
Inside you shall also find the heroes memorial - from WW I , WW II and the names of those deported to Russia after WWII between 1945 and 1949 (communism was a real scourge for Romania and if more proof was needed here is this memento).
Entrance fee is 10 Ron ... and you get a description so it is explaining you what you see inside.
So when you are in the area, check it out, is money and time well spent.

Yes, here's an old church, which looks like a church, and is a church. But churches are churches as buildings. Where are the real living stones amongst these people in this city?

We enjoyed touring this church. The outside is under construction in September 2019 but the inside was lovely. We admired the special paintings on the second story, the fine baptismal font, organ and high altar.

The bride and her wedding party were waiting to get in when I arrived at this attraction. I asked the man near the door whether the church is a Catholic or Orthodox one. He said it is a Lutheran Church!
Wanting not to disturb wedding that would start shortly, I plan to its exteriors before leaving Sighisoara.

This church, constructed around 1300, is located near the clock tower and is a fairly large church with rather simple architecture; nothing astounding but yet its simple lines make it still an impressive sight. The interior is much more impressive with a beautiful alter and in general, a very pretty inside with its various paintings and engravings. It is worth a visit inside even for the small fee charged. Well worth a visit.

It was really pretty with an interesting history. The entrance fee was not much and we could also take photos without any fee. We got an English written history of the church, but there is also a guide for groups. The staff is really nice too. Worth visiting. Recommend.

A nice church, right next to the Turnul cu Ceas. You have to pay to enter. It is much cooler than outside in the summer :P

Worth seeing at least once, very cool small crypt as well! So much history here. One of the most dream-like, beautiful cemeteries I have ever seen! It's a must see, like stepping into a fairy tale!
