This is a good place to visit after lunch during the heat of the day. Inside is cooler. It has a magnificent main altar. Throughout there are side altars and many carved and decorated relics and religious statues. You can also go one level down...More

This church was a stop on a tour. It’s a nice old church that the guide said was older than the city. The story was that some people defied the authority and were killed and sainted and buried here. I liked the architecture.

This was a part of our day trip to Avila. It is beautiful and well preserved. The outside is spectacular. It is worth the stop to see it when your visiting Avila and seeing the walls of the town.

San Vicente is one of the oldest churches in Avila, built just outside the city walls. Built in Romanesque (Norman) style, it houses the tomb of the original city patrons. The original portico is well worth a look.

If you’re limited on time choose this church to tour while in Avila. The Basilica San Vincente is a Romanesque jewel with its richly decorated golden altar and golden crypt below. The long central nave is topped with ribbed vaults above pillars defined by Corinthian...More

Just outside the walls, i liked the basilica better than the cathedral. Certainly the included commentary was more engaging.
