Fujairah Fort has been restored to working condition and its fascinating to see it rearing above the palm groves as it once did when Fujairah was an independent principality. The contrast between the ancient fort and nearby ruined village on the one hand, and the fast-encroaching skyline of modern Fujairah city on the other is stark and a reminder of how far the UAE has come in a single lifetime. The Fort is well worth seeing, though it rewards the imaginative traveller more than the prosaic one.

A free location to enjoy and easy to get to by taxi. It's a great way to start the tour of Fujairah is the fort. It's small and can be enjoyed for under 30 minutes. There are great views once you climb up of the old and the city skyscrapers rising from the horizon.

This is a fairly simple and functional fort. There are steep steps or a steep ramp to the entrance and more steps in the entryway. There is the typical open flat center. I had been grumbling about a lack of post cards at most of our stops. A young man stood with a basket of assorted items such as flags and a packet of post cards. Most welcome. The towers have fairly steep steps. However, they give you a good understanding of the tactical importance of the fort -- good views. There are other exhibits such as the houses which you will see on the left as you drove through the entry arch. We were on a tour and had no time for this. It looks interesting. No tour guides.

Fujairah Fort is situated only a few minutes’ drive from Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and a slice of Fujairah 16th Century history that should be on everyone’s to do list when visiting. Pretty much destroyed by the British Navy in 1925; the Fort was deserted for half a century until it was restored in the late 1990’s. I enjoyed the visit and learning about its history dating back to the early 1500’s.

Fujairah Fort was built in 1500-1550. and is considered one of the oldest fortifications in the United Arab Emirates. In 1925, the fort's towers were destroyed by the British fleet. In 1997-2000 Fujairah Fort has been restored and is now an interesting attraction. Free admission.

Fujairah Fort, the oldest fort in the United Arab Emirates dating back to the second half of the 17th century, was built on a rocky outcrop where it protected the village and date palm oasis from invaders. For many centuries, it was the only stone building along the coast of the emirate. The fort has some halls, a square tower and two round towers. The structure was damaged by an attack by the English at the beginning of the last century but has recently been restored. A Heritage Village has been set up around the Fujairah Fort, where you can walk among old historic houses and appreciate the traditional lifestyle of the ancient residents of Fujairah.

I gave 4/5 because after plenty of rebuilts, even if they use mainly traditional materials, you will still see some shortcomings - for example concrete staircase. After all there is plenty of advantages and reasons why you should visit this place. First of all to see how the old fortress function. I was suprised how big it was inside. Second point is the view from up - quite nice. Third the grear atmosphere in this place - its quiet and magical. The entrances is free. They have toilet for tourists. If you are there during imams pray the sound will be incredible.
