The "Top of the World Highway" is aptly named and some incredible views of the valleys below. The road on the Canadian side is well maintained quite wide and come with long and steep ascents and decents. We pulled a 30' trailer over the pass...More

My wife and visited the Yukon and travelled through Chicken, Alaska (only gas station for many miles). We saw 3 bears and a cow moose and a young calf moose probably 2 months old. The scenery is breathe taking as you are driving about 1,500...More

After driving Dempster Highway, back to Dawson City we continued on Top of the World Highway heading to Tok in Alaska. It’s another great experience. The free George Black ferry in Dawson (opens 24/7 on demand, summer only) took us across Yukon River to West...More

We travelled on the Top of the World Highway on my escorted Tour of Alaska and the Yukon, I'm adamant of this thanks to a fellow traveller taking a photo of the Poker Creek crossing station where you get your passport stamped, also because you...More

We travelled the top of the world highway from Whitehorse in a hired motor home. The vehicle rattled and shook about on the unsaved roads like a pea on a shovel but it was the most amazing experience. The sense of being on an adventure...More

Road varies from very rough in US, paved near the border and hard packed on Canadian. Our 5th wheel drain plumbing came apart due to the shaking and we lost the bumper cap and the sewage hose stored in it. Well worth the drive from...More

Amazing experience. Beautiful, untouched and lots of wildlife. Caribou, bears, and a lynx walked across the road right in from of my car! Camped along the way and ended up on the Yukon! Stopped in Chicken for lunch.

You can see the top of Eastern Alaska from this one Highway. It travels the mountain tops. There is a Free Ferry that runs across the Yukon at the Canadian side on the Yukon.

This is a challenging drive, but worth it. Three are three little known government campgrounds on the route, one just across the river from Dawson City and two on the U. S. side; all should be considered before paying to stay at Chicken. The road...More

American side was rough, and muddy, driving through forested land. For some reason the last thirty miles was beautifully paved! Canadian side was beautiful, running down the ridge. It was almost reminiscent of the Cabot Trail, in that you get these beautiful vistas with the...More

No the road closes in mid September and ferry service at Dawson ends as well. I wouldn't drive in a normal car either, parts of the road are almost impassable.

It can be done. I did it with a 37 + tow. I'd plan on leaving early enough so that you can minimize the oncoming traffic. I'd also suggest going from Tok to Dawson because the US side of the road is more narrow than the... More
