We did the full-guided 4-day kayaking/camping tour with Pangaea Adventure. HUGE thanks to our most kind, thoughtful, and knowledgeable guide Ben Richard! Super duper recommended!!! The photos attached would explain how AWESOME this trip was. P.S., Ben is a professional photographer and he took many gorgeous photos for our tour too. But they are all super large-size photos and can't be uploaded here. Have to enjoy them by ourselves;)

This was a stellar trip, and the highlight of our time in Valdez. We had initially reserved Columbia Glacier tour, but due to wicked high winds, we were given the option to rebook for Shoup. There were 12 guests and two guides during our tour, and it was a lovely balance of not too few and not too many. Our guides, Hallie, Kyle, and boat driver Tim, were lovely people (and the fact they knew Lenny Pepperbottom, a renowned outdoorsman) upped our confidence that we were with knowledgeable guides. The rain was ever present for the whole of the trip, but laughs and chatting and views were ever present as well. Highly recommend this outfit for a great time.

We chose their day tour of the Columbia glacier and it did not disappoint! Not only was it gorgeous but we were also visited by some seals checking out the glacier. The guides were great at getting us close to the glacier but keeping us far enough away to keep us safe when the glacier decided to let go of some of its ice. The guides were great at showing everyone how to kayak and helping everyone get into the kayak and launch off once we got to the beach. Honestly it was not as cold as I expected since we had a "skirt" that connected our waist to the kayak so no water could get in. They also supplied us with water proof pants, jacket, and dry bag for items we wanted to bring (for me it was my phone to take photos and a change of clothes). I would definitely still suggest wearing warm clothes though since the air is still pretty chilly next to that huge glacier! But definitely worth the trip out there to see the stunning views!

We did a kayak self-rescue lesson with Simon followed by a 3-day rental of two tandem kayaks for our own adventure. :) Never thought that intentionally falling in the cold Alaska water would be fun, but Simon made it actually enjoyable and super helpful! (Luckily we didn't have to use our new skills during our trip though it came in handy a week later while packrafting in Denali!!!). Simon was also super super helpful with our rentals and helped us with extra dry bags and boots. We kayaked to Shoup Bay and spent 2 nights by the glacier. It was AWESOME.

Honestly an incredible experience, I'm so glad I did it. Best thing on our holiday. We did the four-day Kayak trip to Columbia bay. We were complete beginners in kayaks, and I would say found it a tough workout. It is an adventure, and can get pretty cold/wet, especially at the glacier bay. Definitely you need to look carefully at the equipment list and follow it! But it was so worth it! We saw orcas breaching, sea lions and otters a-plenty, whales, and drifted within a few metres of a golden eagle, just standing and watching us. Our guide Ashleigh was fantastic -> very knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife. And a great cook! Honestly the meals kept us going, you really need the calories and the hot food, and every meal delivered! The company organized it really well and were easy to interact with. If you want an adventure - definitely go for the multi-day trip, I think it's really worth it to spend the extra time out in the amazing Alaskan wild (especially when the sun comes out!).
