Absolutely gorgeous scenery but sad to see how the earth was dug into. Easy to view and nice that there are spaces to hold the camera through the fence to get a good shot.

Interesting pit on the side of the road... Really needs someone to clean up the area, so much garbage around.

Unique
Jul 2021
Unique pit with bulletin boards explaining the history and process of copper mining in Bisbee. It's labeled the "scenic view" sign once you get on 80 going east from Old Bisbee. Just a short stop off the road.

Nice view of open pit mining

Just viewing an abanded open-pit mine thru a fence, but still interesting with the surrounding area. Visit Erie street in Lowell also just a block away.

Massive and beautiful.
Apr 2021
This is right on the road on the south side of Old Bisbee. It is absolutely beautiful to see the different layers of rock and how massive the pit is. It is not made of lavender--just named after a man named Lavender. We were confused until we got there.

Interesting

As you drive up to the pit you notice the different colors in the rock and the meticulous terracing of the land as well the the protruding piece of land that that they mined around . That piece of land remains because the original owner would not sell out to the mining company at the time.

Awesome View
Mar 2021
Visited Bisbee with my husband and our friends. Stumbled upon the Lavender Pit and couldn't believe how awesome it was. Take time to read the plaques by the scenic overlook, as they explain the mining process and history of the pit.

Lavender Pit was named after a man

It was amazing to see how deep and wide this pit was and the equipment used to process the ore taken from the mine.

Wow, its amazing?
Feb 2021
Even though its considered one of the smaller open pit mines, if you haven't ever saw (seen) a mine like this, it is amazing. The mine comes right up to the road just a mile south of Old Bisbee, and there is a scenic ovelook with openings in the pit to see the bottom of the bit. There is also a short tutorial poster and history just south of the WWII memorial at the same turnout.
