A popular tourist stop, this jail slid 225 feet downhill during a "land slippage" caused by the many mining shafts in the area.

The Jerome Sliding Jail is a structure in town that you can walk by and check out. We did--not very interesting--it is a historic piece of Jerome.

Parked nearby and this building caught my eye. Turns out it was the sliding jail. Really interesting history surrounding this place.

This place is kinda neat but not much to see. They have a couple old toilets and an outhouse that you can throw coins in from the fence. Neat old building.

The structure is falling apart but is definitely worth the look. It’s hard to find but if you find the basketball court it is directly below the court. Steps are off to the left and the placard description is at the top of the stairs.

We looked into the tours of Jerome, but they didn't get good reviews. We ended up driving to Jerome and walking around, and drove to what we couldn't walk to. Go to the 1918 Liberty Theatre and Gifts. They have some cool gifts and souvenirs....More

Not much to see. Like everything else in Jerome it is a short steep walk to get there. The history of this small jail sliding down the hill is probably unique in America, Good story.

You will probably have to ask somebody where it is, since you can't easily see it from the main part of town. It's a hike down some wicked steps to get there, and yes, it is beside the basketball court. The jail slid to it's...More

Always worth a visit… We’ve been through here several times in the past on our travels and for us coming from the UK it seems a bit like a visit to perhaps one of our older and quaint seaside resorts, a bit of history with...More

Crazy history on how this building has relocated itself after land slippage due to the copper mining here. Everything here is walkable and so much history to experience in this town.
