We had such a lovely time at the Botanical Gardens. It only cost us R60 for 2 adults and 2 pre-school children. We took a lovely walk around the garden following the paths and it was so relaxing whilst also affording the girls the opportunity to run and laugh without us having to chase after them or yell at them... On the outskirts of Bloemfontein is this jewel of a gardens. A lot of emphasis is on the Grassveld which dominates the province, but natural woodlands and trees in the gardens provide welcome shade on hot days. Ample place to picnic and let the children run around. A bird hide overlooking the dam gives birders a place to sit. For... More

The gardens are beautiful and well kept. It is worth it to go for a walk. We were there on a Sunday and although there were a lot of cars in the parking area, the grounds were not at all crowded. We had a picnic but the restaurant on the premises looked nice.

I'm not entirely sure how the Botanical Garden works. If you're looking for flowers, there were very few. Also Monday is a poor day to visit - the restaurant is closed (although they very kindly opened to serve us a coffee). We walked up the hills following the track which didn't seem to have much point, although there were some... More

The botanical gardens are well presented and there are a number of trails but there are no maps to indicate how far the trails are. It would be useful to know what I'm committing to before I set off. The bird hid was good though.

Stunning place. There is a market every first Sunday of the month with great products and food and live music.

This is such a beautiful and relaxing park. The native plants, flowers and trees are in the most natural and enjoyable setting. Our visit was purely to see the beauty of God's creation but the gardens are well labeled to make this a very educational experience as well. Planning an event? The Botanical garden can host it as they were... More

Free State National Botanical Garden is a must see in Bloemfontein. The gardens are well maintained. If you are a plant lover - especially indigenous plants - this is 'n place to visit. You can stroll with family, kids and sit down at the restaurant and enjoy something to drink and enjoy the landscape.
