Fun place for handcrafted african items. Get ready for the hustle of the vendors trying to get you to come to their shop, as most craft markets. I wanted a jacket that wasn't in my size and truly impressed how the vendor told me he would make one for me and to return the next day. I did and he had it ready. It's a great place to shop. It's also great that it is indoors.

Was a very good experience for me. I was looking for some souvenirs to take home. When I was at the Johannesburg airport in transit I saw some nice souvenirs there and checked the prices. I originally was planning to pick them up on the way home but then decided to visit the rosebank Mall and also this craft markup. They have tons of stuff there. All the usual souvenirs and then some little bit nicer stuff. I bought some of the animal skin pillows right at the entrance for a very good price and much less than what they are asking at the airport. Then downstairs. I picked up a couple of very nice masks and the guys were nice enough to wrap it all up for me. Also I head over to the game store where they had several cheap suitcases and bags to lug that stuff home as well as the crazy plastic stores which have bubble wrap to wrap it all up with. So can handle all your souvenir shopping and packing needs all in one trip and is really part of the Rose Bank Mall. So you have all the Mall resources. Good coffee and stores. I will attach a picture of the owner of the shop that I bought. Two masks from. The prices were reasonable. He had a great selection. Did a great job packing it all up for me and was very easy to work with. So if you think of any Masks to take home, I'd highly recommen you check out his store

Our family travelled around South Africa for 3 weeks in February and March 2022 and we had quite some problems getting traditional South African souvenirs. Luckily we came across this market the last day. It is really a perfect place for souvenirs. We bought many things, but were unfortunately almost the only tourists there. If we had more place in our backpacks, we would have bought more. I highly recommend this place.

A great market full of handmade items as well as more generic souvenirs. It is very overwhelming as every stall owner is trying to get your attention and business. A lot of the stalls do have the same items but each did also seem to have a specialty that they make themselves. Absolutely worth the visit to get some great souvenirs and gifts!

This market near the rose bank mall , it’s not connected to the mall it’s outside the mall , best place for handy craft, prices are very reasonable, bargaining is very important , we paid half price after bargaining, beaded animals, beaded jewelry , Wooden items , everything is nicely done, best place for shopping , go by taxi, also one of the sightseeing bus tour stop.

We were shopping for souveniers to take home and have been pricing things like ostrich eggs, wooden bowls, tops in Capetown before arriing in Johannesburg. We found the prices at the African Cragt Market the most reasonable for your money. For instane, most shops charge for the ostrich egg and the stand separately, we bought 4 eggs and the stand was included in the price and our eggs were packed very nicely in egg boxes for travel. Needless to say, you have to be prepared to bargain like crazy ... but I am used to it and the vendors are good natured about it. There are some lovely tops/shifts for women and Mandella style Presidential shirts which my husband was looking for. Spend 2 hours here and you need not go elsewhere for your souvenier shopping as there are hundred of vendors in the market. for anything you may wish to buy to take home

This is a huge, eclectic collection of African artifacts, art, carvings, etc., but it can be quite intimidating as the sellers sit in their stalls and use a lot of high pressure sales techniques to get you to buy something!! I can sympathize greatly--the economy of South Africa is challenging and the goods here are ridiculously cheap (in US dollars). But if you really want good quality, artistic, and reasonably priced African souvenis, go to Art Africa in the Parkview shops near the Zoo Lake--they are really top notch!

Having only a day in this suberb. We wanted to explore what Rosebank had to offer. We asked how to get there. It is only there on a Sunday. It's pretty amazing at all the different types of crafts, clothing and ornaments.
Well worth the visit.

Nothing really unique or interesting to be honest. Panders more to tourists seeking generic curios of their African dream tour. Far less exciting for locals.

We're going next month and I'm wondering about the approximate prices of things. For example, what is the ZAR price range of baskets or woven plates (6-14") Or about how much do beaded animals (key chain to 6 inches size) cost? (Or beaded or seed pod necklaces etc) Thank you!

We are planning on visiting this market tomorrow, and we despise bartering! Someone has suggested that payong 1/3 of proposed price is ok, another has suggested that saving 25-30% is fine. All feedback welcome and appreciated.... what offers would be appropriate? 25% off, 50% off??? Also, roughly what amount of time should we budget for this visit? Thank you!!!
Written 7 February 2019
We visited in January we got about 20% off they were very reluctant to come down in price much at all, we are used to bartering in the Far East where you get about 50% off but not here but the quality is good so prices are fair. We spent a couple of hours there which was plenty of time, enjoy.

HI, before meeting friends, I will be alone in Johannesburg for one day and nite. I love markets, especially handicrafts. Is the Rosebank market safe for me alone? Is it open on Saturdays? Many thanks in advance, Beth
Written 17 October 2018
Hi Beth, answers are yes and yes.
You will feel quite safe there. Also agree with Michelle to keep your wits about you. Don't allow wallets to be seen etc. Food hall also very good, give it a try.
Written 14 November 2018
not 100% sure....we ubered it. however, the market is located on the upper deck of a parking garage, so my guess is there probably is, but get there early!!

Hi, we will visit the Rosebank art & crafts market on a Sunday at the end of our Africa holiday. We will not have much Rand left, does the craft market take credit cards? Thanks for your help!
Written 7 June 2017
Hi some merchants take Credit cards and there are some ATM just outside, so no worries!
